The Curse of Monkey Island™

The first game came out when I was 3 years old. I started playing games when I was very young. I played the old Sierra games, and Street Rod 1 and 2 and games you've probably never heard of. I played coloring book games on really old PCs that had windows 3.1 or just simply dos... Adventure games were lots of fun because they had stories, and objectives that weren't like other games where you were attacking or shooting space invaders. Yes, I played Atari 2600 too, and then nintendo, so on... Early adventure games took the graphical limitations of their time and provided gamers with a unique, amazing experience of story telling, characters, humor, puzzle sloving. As time went on shooters incorporated more puzzles, story elements, deeper characters... I watched a lot of Disney cartoons. When I first played CMI, it had taken the franchise up a notch, the graphics were beautiful, Disney-like graphics. It was also voiced over, something not entirely new but it livened the humor of the game. Of course this was the new evoliution of story telling, no more pixelated graphics that strained your eyes, now beautiful illustrations brought to life. Then of course after this when 3D graphics had evolved to a point, it was the new way to tell a story... Where as I appreciate the pixel art of the early days... Curse simply looks and feels fresher, cleaner and more vivid. I still play pixel art games and people still make them... Curse is also a hilarious game with an amazing voice acting cast. I've replayed this game many times. Some would argue that it wasn't Ron's vision but we're not sure that Ron even really had one. The ending of MI-2 could easily just be passed off as a joke that never landed with people. MI3 revived the franchise for a few more titles and perhaps a future. The ending of MI2, if anything was a "joke on the fans", that you wasted your time playing a fantasy-sequence, or did you? I don't see any deep profound "secret" there. Curse adds to the story.

The Curse of Monkey Island is the third game in the Monkey Island series, and to be honest it's probably the best yet. With a coherent story, great characters, voice-acting and a neat graphical design you're getting a great adventure which even could have worked out as a cartoon series at the time. Guybrush is back again, escaping the weird ending that Ron Gilbert left us at the end of LeChuck's Revenge. The story this time is more of the same in the sense of "Get a boat, find the treasure, save the girl and oh yeah LeChuck is there" but it executes it all pretty well and for the first time the ending is actually not a cliff hanger!!! Definitely a recommendation to play if you enjoy the Monkey Island series and other LucasArts games!

Curse is the third entry in the Monkey Island series and quite possibly the best adventure game ever made. While the first two are absolute classics, this game takes everything good about them and makes it better. Astonishing, timeless visual style, wonderful scoring, streamlined gameplay, superb voice acting and hilariously over-the-top writing combine to create the perfect adventure game. A feat that to this day has to be equaled. This game continues the story of Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge, right after its infamous cliffhanger ending. Protagonist Guybrush Threepwood manages to escape the zombie pirate LeChuck's trap and reunite with his love, Governor Elaine Marley. Unfortunately, due to his classic carelessness, he manages to accidentally turn her into a solid gold statue. Now Guybrush must find a way to undo this curse before it's too late. It's normal for a different development team to take the reins of an existing franchise (Batman: Arkham Origins), but it's rare for them to do as good a job (or almost) as the original creators (Deus Ex: Human Revolution). Even rarer is for them to surpass the originals, which is what happened here, showing that the new team understood exactly what made the original games great, and then built on that. The franchise would sadly not strike equal gold with its sequel, Escape from Monkey Island, which had yet a different development team that at times seems didn't even play the original games. Fortunately, Curse still delivers. While it's a linear story with no branching paths, the beautiful art style, lovable characters, outstanding humor and hilarious performances will make you want to play it over and over. Now stop wasting your time reading this and go play it.

One of my alltime favoirites of my childhood. Very funny and cool adventure. The comic graphic is still cool. It also runs ewthout and problems inside ScummVM on any linux. Spend me again several hours of fun.

This is not just one of the finest installments from Lucas Arts golden age of point n' clicks. It is, to me, THE BEST point n' click game ever made, one of the best looking games ever, even more than 20 years old, with amazing soundtrack and voice talent and just great comedy situations. It's a truly timeless masterpiece.
