The Curse of Monkey Island™

I still own my original copies from 1997, I open the box to smell once in a while just like any sane person would do. This game is the apex of cartoony Lucas Arts adventures, just like late 90s action movies, the genre matured technically and the graphically to culminate in this masterpiece. Highly recommended even if you do not have a 90s nostalgia.

If I didn't already own the boxed version from years ago, still in working order, I'd snap this up in a beat (and still might anyway). Curse of Monkey Island is probably the best game from the series - a claim which must seem sensational given the fact it follows the two games which basically pioneered the genre. But this game is stunning; the artwork is comparable to classic Disney cartoons. The sound and music was lifted to a standard we now take for granted in games, and it was the first in the series to recruit voice actor Dominic Armato, who is now pretty much the official voice of Guybrush Threepwood. Listening to the characters chatting away is still thoroughly entertaining, especially thanks to the typically brilliant humour. The franchise peaked with this game, because they simply haven't managed to acheive anything close to it since. Its sequel wasn't bad as a whole, but the controls were terrible, and everything felt comparably lacking in enthusiasm. The Telltale episodic-series that released not long ago didn't feel like they belonged to the Monkey Island world and really lacked in every department. So get this game if you want the very best Monkey Island experience.

"The Curse of Monkey Island" is the best of a phenomenal series. A+ writing, acting, art; the puzzles are adventure game-y and therefore a little out there, but they're pretty good, considering. This is a steal. Thank you so much to GOG for bringing this classic back.

An absolute must play! In my opinion the best Monkey Island game in the series and one of the greatest games of all time! You absolutely won't regret the purchase!

This is by far my favorite point n' click adventure ever. The writing/humor, music, voices, art style—everything just comes together perfectly in this third installment of the series. The inventory puzzles are kinda obtuse at points—as this style of puzzle often is—but it doesn't really matter because everything else is just perfect. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to duel on banjos and insults.
