Unmask the true killers in this sprawling narrative and discover their devious motives.
Observe closely and reconstruct each scene of death. Your skills of deduction can identify each suspect, motive and murder weapon.
Reveal the true nature of the mysterious Golden Idol and those who covet it. Follow the journey of a cursed aristocratic family as you untangle a web of deceit and villainy in your hunt for the truth behind this dark conspiracy.
An excellent deduction game that scratches a lot of the same itches that The Return of the Obra Dinn did.
Mechanically and stylistically very different to it, but it works. A simple interface, graphics that are distinctive enough that you can recognise people. Clues hidden a around. Not any that were ambiguous enough to cause issues.
It is not overly long, but a wee gem of a game. Would highly recommend, 5/5.
I bought this game because others had likened it to the Return of the Obra Dinn, which was a standout game for me. And I have to say that I understand the comparisons, but this feels like its own unique spin on these kinds of deductive games, of which I could only really name a handful
The art style and music are strikingly unique and really make it feel like you're peering into little historical murder vignettes which all have their own fun little interpersonal dramas and characters. There is an overarching story which, whilst ultimately quite simple when you've worked your way through the game, is satisfying in a way which feels really human and genuine, and they way it's all presented to you as you slowly unfold it makes it feel as grand and devious to you, the player, as it (presumably) does to the characters.
Overall, highly recommend, it's quite short but I view that as a positive for the experience it is going for. Looking forward to what the creative team behind this go on to do in the future!
I loved this game! Ever since playing The Return of the Obra Dinn and falling in love with it's approach to mystery solving I've been looking for something similar to scratch the same itch and not only does The Case of the Golden Idol do this it is also one of the best mystery puzzle games I've ever played. It has a great style and an engaging story, and above all it makes you feel smart for solving it's collection of murder mysteries.
This is one of those point and click detective
Game where you have to fill in a lot of forms, which
Is not always easy and sometimes requires guessing
Pretty much you have to like paperwork and while
Cool, the graphics are a bit odd.
