A fantasy spoof that stands on its own
As the description says, lots of this game is about spoofing famous fantasy franchises, but the story still remains interesting enough to stand on its own and be a worthy contender with the great point-and-click adventures of the mid-late 90's. Highly recommended for all fans of point-and-click adventures in general and fans of classic LucasArts fare and Discworld games in particular.

Perfect!
The best adventure game in a long time. Just about everything is spot on, the story, the jokes, the underlying philosophy. I hope there will be more games like this in the future, it's time for a renaissance of the adventure game genre, and this title will lead the way.

Adventure game of the year 2015
The second tome of the Book of Unwritten Tales has been revealed. And it is marvellous. It kept me busy for more than 26 hours which makes it nearly as long as The Longest Journey. Speaking of which, BoUT2, along with its predecessors, is simple the best adventure game since The Longest Journey (i. e. since 15 years) and almost reaches the quality of LucasArts' classics. The Graphics are nice with backgrounds using projections mapping (a technique that was once proposed by a fan for the Monkey Island 2 remake in a YouTube video), the soundtrack is played by the City of Prague Symphonic Orchestra, and the voice actors are doing a great job. There are actually three editions of the game: the Standard Version, th Almanac Edition, and the Kickstarter Backer Edition. The latter one is not available for sale, since it is limited to people who pledged 180 $ at Kickstarter. The Almanac Edition contains the game plus some additional features: a soundtrack CD, a making-of DVD, a 100-pages book with concept art, a double-sided A3 poster, an extended manual and an ingame-feature to change the Critter's fur colour. If you like to have the additional features, I strongly recommend you to buy the boxed version of the Almanac Edition. All boxed versions are DRM-free.

Great story, fun, and full of eye candy
Just like the first two games, this one has a soundtrack that stands on its own and voice acting that fits the game perfectly. The art and atmosphere are beautiful. This is the longest game of the series so far. Whereas Critter Chronicles takes about half the time to play as BoUT1, BoUT2 takes about time and a half. Also, most people's favorite character, Wilbur the gnome, is back, and we get to play him for a good portion of the game. In my review of Critter Chron I complained about illogical inventory puzzles. There are still some, but for the most part everything the characters do makes sense and you can think it through. This game continues the tradition of making fun of and referencing other video games and movies and whatnot. There seems to be less of that in this game than in the previous two, although there is still plenty to look for and plenty of laughs to be had. I did have an annoying bug where characters would get stuck. They had to be in just the right location before they started walking a particular path and to get in that location they took mini steps back and forth, usually something like 30 times in a row, before they snapped out of it. Once the character wouldn't snap out of it and I had to quit the game. Thank goodness for autosave. It's also getting to the point where we know these characters so well that we do and don't want to play some of them. So getting forced to play the characters you don't like (as much) is a real bummer. I know adventurers split up on adventures, and I'm not saying I have a solution. I'm just letting you know about something that lessened my enjoyment of the game. So overall, great looking, great sounding, longest yet addition to the series that is a lot of fun to play. The world, story, and characters are top notch. They really have some great writers. I just encountered one type of bug and had some nitpicks that keep me from giving it a perfect score.
