You play as the titular Bard, a roguish, manipulative and lewd songster whose priorities in life are the acquisition of material wealth and carnal pleasures. The Bard's pretty sarcastic by nature, but you get to decide just how scathing he is by selecting 'Nice' or 'Sarky' responses. Watch out you don't get too cocky though; folk you've upset may come back to haunt you.
During his raucous adventures, the Bard recruits a motley band of eccentrics and misfits to help in his ignoble cause. Enemies can be defeated using traditional or magical weapons and you can also use the Bard's dulcet tones to summon creatures. If you're tired of saving humankind or bored of games that take themselves a bit too seriously, The Bard's Tale could very well be for you.

I'm playing this on windows 7 and there is no anti-alias. All the edges are jagged and the mouse can go past the bottom of the screen.
This is one of my favorite games, it is really to bad that this is a terrible port.
I first bought the game on Android where it is great fun. The graphics are fully functional, controls are well optimized for tablet and phone use. It is also the platform which I highly recommend to play this on.
That said, it still is an entertaining game even on PC with some great tongue-in-cheek humor poking geeky, biting fun on the entire RPG genre. Just the limitations that come from the Android environment may not necessarily be your cup of tea.
Thus don't expect a classic action RPG a la Torchlight et al or you are certain to be disappointed.
This "action RPG" comes with a zombie dance-off - need I say more?
Furthermore, don't expect this game to be in any way related to "The Bard's Tale" series of RPG games. It has nothing but the name in common with the latter, despite the original DOS titles of the series being included in the bundle.
Where the bard really shines is its humor, voiced dialog, and focus on music with an incredible soundtrack of natural recordings featuring real artists and instruments recorded in high quality. A soundtrack I still listen to regularly.
The underlying Scottish theme with an enjoyable story, a refreshingly grumpy bard, and plot twists that are actually worth being called the same do their part in making this an enjoyable experience.
Personally, I played through the bard not twice but thrice and can recommend it as a casual game that you should enjoy stretches of 30-60 minutes at a time. It is an ideal game to play on a tablet during a commute.
