The combat Is really clunky, the enemy can be realing back after a blow but still attack you? you've got to be WELL within thier mele range to swing a big lead pipe. you have to go through an animation for EVERY log you pick up. The jump is pittiful, they added some pretty damning fall damage. Most of that I can look past they're first impressions but....WHY IN GODS NAME CAN I NOT BIND MOUSE BUTTONS PAST LEFT, RIGHT, AND MIDDLE CLICK?! IT'S 2023!
Also why, why does it sound like I'm playing the dead rising main menu??
Has an option to disable motion blur, but no option to disable depth of field, chromatic aberration, or bloom. All locked to a option in post processing that you cant completely turn off. As someone who gets headaches from looking at objects that are out of focus, this is a non starter for me.
and not really more than that. Yeah, i understand the original game has been released way earlier. Anyway... at some point i was wishing to have chosen the "low" difficulty in at least one of the 4 available game mechanics, since you can set the difficulty for "Combat", "Puzzles", "Mission" & "Cyber" all separately.
On normal settings, you'll have no mission marker telling you where to go next, ammo will be rare and the most important thing: enemies will respawn. Levels do generally consist out of maze-like corridors and small rooms that do look very similar. So you'll often end up running in circles looking for the next door that can be opened with one of these key cards that you have found, while fighting off the same enemies you have killed earlier before, wasting precious ammo.
I quit after a while, because it just got tedious. If i was about to start a new attempt, i definitively would:
- set the "Mission" difficulty to "low", so that a mission marker will be available, telling you where to go next, so that you won't have to run around aimlessly.
alternatively (if you like looking for ways to advance in a level)
- set the "Combat" difficulty to "low", so that fighting off respawned enemies will be less of a chore
Other than that i enjoyed the game for the time i have played it (until the third floor). I only quit, because of the problems mentioned above. I am just not very patient with most games. Although do not expect something great here. It all pretty basic and unspectacular.
The atmosphere is there and advancing requires some tactics, i guess these are the games strongest points.
i dont no how this game has had so many good reviews in my opinion its not worth £34.99 if you have to have it then wait for it to go on sale this is another bad game from night dive i for one will not be buying anymore games from them
The art style looks disjointed and ugly, straight away. Some things are HD and other things have this 'retro' voxel look to them. It's really unappealing. The game itself is slow and boring to start out. I was hoping they'd make the gameplay better than the original, but it's not much better; which is tremendously sad. If there should have been one purpose to this remake, it should have been that aspect. I guess I'll have to stick to engine remakes/re-implementations here on out if this is the kind of product that gets released after years and years of waiting for proper improvements to an antiquated game.
