Styx: Master of Shadows is an infiltration game with RPG elements taking place in a dark fantasy universe, where you sneak, steal and assassinate your way through as Styx, a Goblin two-centuries of age.
Deep inside the vertiginous and multi-layered forsaken Tower of Akenash, where Humans and Elves protect the World-Tree, source of the Amber – a powerful and magical golden sap – is hidden Styx’ chance to understand his true origin... and to make a fortune at the same time.
Prowl through the huge, miles-high Tower of Akenash, completing various missions (assassination, information recovery, etc.) and avoiding detection. Progress in the shadows, assassinate your targets in close combat, or orchestrate «accidents». RPG mechanics let you unlock new powerful skills, impressive special moves, and an optimized equipment. Amber will grant you spectacular powers such as invisibility, «amber vision», and the ability to clone yourself. Explore the levels to discover every bit of information about your past, and steal prized treasures to acquire equipment upgrades. Embrace the shadows!

Does not hold up to the test of time
I loved this game when it first came out. I played it endlessly on my PS. However, the controls are clunky on PC, and everything just feels sluggish and awkward. Still decent, and worth some nostalgia. But don't forget to take off the rose-colored glasses first.

Could Have Been Good
My actual score is only two and a half stars. This game could have been good if they had finished making it before release, which is so common now. There are some problems that could have been fixed with a month or two of beta testing and bug killing. -The worst is how I keep grabbing anything around when I am jumping. This is extremly frustrating and gets me killed so many times. -The controls and combat system are also doo doo. It feels so rigid and limited. I hate automatically slowing down to a halt and locking into combat with anyone who gets within 10 feet. That also gets me killed a lot. I should be able to evade them and choose not to fight in a stealth game where all the opponents are bigger and stronger. -I can't step up, climb over, or jump down from small objects, like the side of starwells. that I should be able to climb or drop down, like there is an invisible wall there. -The bugs and ogres that kill you should kill the enemy NPCs as well as Styx. It makes no sense that a mindless bug or orc that kills anything that it detects in range would only kill Styx. I should be able to pull the guards into the bugs or orcs to get them killed, or pull the bugs to the NPCs to get them killed. Not only would it make sense, but it would be another fun way to take out the enemies. -That's another gripe, there aren't enough sneaky ways to take out the enemies. There's only like 2 ways to take out knights, poison and dropping a chandalier, for example. Some other creative ways would be less repetitive. -Styx should also have more weapons. A poison blow dart gun would have been perfect for one. This game wasn't finished, but I didn't pay much for it so I got about what I paid for. What a shame, because they got a lot right. The concept is good, it looks good, the voice acting is good, the plot is good, the dialogue is well written, there are no modern politics to ruin the imersion, and it's a blend of two genres I like, stealth and fantasy.

Nice Stealth Game but repetitive
Good mechanics, beeing evil is a nice idea. Good LVL-Design. The only bad thing is, that the game is really repetitve after some hrs.
