The gameplay is spoilt by lazy enemy design. I wasted too many hours on SOR2 to not immediately notice how the feel of this game is just off. The controls are way too sluggish and the enemies are too fond of cheap attacks. SHame but not worth full price.
Beginning of nineties. Finally A Mega Drive come to my home. I watched a TV review of your highness Streets of Rage 2. First time I heard of that game. I was in love in front of TV while they reviewed it. First sight love.
I bought it and NEVER stop playing it since now. I'm not joking, no year passed since 1993 (when I got it) without me play SOR2. Ok SOR3 was good too, but just SOR2 had "the magic". Best beatem up ever made. With best music ever composed. With a gameplay reached only by Guardian Heroes (another masterpiece GOG should take).
SOR4 it's similar to SOR3. Wonderful game, perfect gameplay, lots of moves. But little under the magic of SOR2, but reach perfection doesn't happen all days.
I will never stop to be gratefull to GOG for all DRM free games they publish, and I'll never forget the bring to me SOR4 drmfree!!
Some says steam is better cause for same price it has online.... I'm sure GOG will do all he can to give us online patch. But ehy, don't remember GOG giving it us DRM free!
Steam started promising games but with DRM. They promised to take price low in return of DRM games. So it's not GOG version lacking something. Ok we still have no online, but steam user don't have low price as steam promised.
SOR4 has a wonderful graphic quality. Character design too west style but very well made. You can choose also original soundtrack!
So the new Axel and Blaze adventure deserve at least 4 stars.
When GOG will bring online patch, stars will be 5!
Do you read GOG? :) You always work sooo good, do all you can for online patch ;)
The game was made by people who really enjoyed the old Streets of Rage (Bare Knuckle) games as the game is filled with references to the old games, homage remake like levels and the animation/artwork is amazing to look at.
The game also has the original music of SoR 2 if you want to use the old music and in the options you can change over the controller buttons to be Xbox, PS or Switch buttons. Devs should really take a note from this option and put it into more games.
If you are a fan of the old Streets of Rage games, like beat'em up games or just want to support something made with actual passion then I hope you will consider getting this game.
I love the animation style. Feels right. I love the combos. The game feels fluid. The developers who made this obviously love the original SOR games. The music is like all music these days, forgettable. Can't wait for 4 person co-op. Single player is harder than the orginals. Worth $20-25.
