The best game I never wanted
I like Star Wars. I don't really like the Clone Wars saga. So when I tried this, I was expecting just another shooter with Clone Wars theme. But then the game sucked me in and I couldn't let it go until I finished it. You play as the leader of a Clone Commando unit of 4. Each of the other three members has a speciality: sniping, hacking, and demolitions. Together, you'll embark on campaigns in Geonosis, a derelict/ghost Republic starship, and Kashyyyk. While a Star Wars game, it feels closer to the ground as you play from the perspective of a soldier, the war feels more crude and lethal than in the movies. The central element of the game is your team. They are your arms and legs, they can revive you if you're down (sometimes along with a taunt), and their personalities will let you tell them apart by the end of the first campaign. The controls to manage your team are simple and effective, and overall, you never feel like babysitting the AI. On the other hand, the music just adds to the experience. It goes ambient most of the time, but there are a few very appropriate moments where it gets an epic tone. Looking back, the story feels a bit disconnected, but well, story has never been a central element of first person shooters, right? Despite that, the ending will surely stick with you for a while after. The graphics are decent for a 2005 game, but nothing to write home about, sound effects are not too special either, except for the quotes from your team which help to build their personalities. Overall, a great game, one of my favorite Star Wars games (second to KOTOR/KOTOR2).
