Songs of conquest is a game that finally took up the flame and formula of HoMaM 3 and brought it into modernity. Less quirky and high fantasy, but therefore more medieval, flexible and grimmer (but not grim dark, just way more dark fantasy than high fantasy). The gameplay is fantastic, addictive, easy to learn, hard to master and the difficulty curve will have you use all your strategic capabilities.
You can tell the creators poured their love and effort into this, and that alone is worth five stars. I was expecting a mediocre storyline, but the flavor and writing are fantastic!
Of course everyone will compare it to Heroes of Might and Magic. To me it's different in a good way and brings some much needed updates like having a building to recruit units from all your towns
I really love what the devs made here.
Nicy system of city developement
Really fun to play with system of magic
Cool units, each with thier own abilities
AI level of non-player team can be set to really, really hard (I dont want to say impossible to defeat for me xD but for now it is! But i defeated 2nd hardest possible already, yay)
Nice graphics for a pixelated game, not that much pixel from afar, but still looking lovely.
The game is still in development, so for early stage I find it really good.
What are the cons for me:
Campaigns are really short, I wish they were made longer and more complex
As it is still developing, the DLC price is way too high for a new faction only :/
Can't tell if it is balanced between factions in high end clashes and it takes some time to get used to manual combat or meaning of different settlements sizes (and how it affects your strategy) but it is quite original Heroes-like game. It feels a bit rough in a few places but maybe because the game is not copy-paste from other titles and my brain was expecting slightly different game behaviour, flow or style. There is enough to learn and explore to make it interesting so it deserves 4 on 5 star scale.
