Enter the world of SOMA and face horrors buried deep beneath the ocean waves. Delve through locked terminals and secret documents to uncover the truth behind the chaos. Seek out the last remaining inhabitants and take part in the events that will ultimately shape the fate of the station. But be careful, danger lurks in every corner: corrupted humans, twisted creatures, insane robots, and even an inscrutable omnipresent A.I.
You will need to figure out how to deal with each one of them. Just remember there’s no fighting back, either you outsmart your enemies or you get ready to run.
From the creators of the cult classic Amnesia the Dark Descent.
Spine-chilling horror that raises questions about identity, consciousness and existence itself.
Mixes stealth, exploration and puzzles into a coherent narrative experience.
SOMA is a pretty dark and compelling game. I actually liked it much more than this team's previous release, Amnesia. There are many games that can change their players, but SOMA is the first that actually documents evidence of the phenomenon. The enemy encounters leave a lot to be desired, but the team actually addressed this by releasing a "safe mode" for the game.
I really liked the game, the story, the atmosphere. It's all well executed with a small dose of philosophy.
The gameplay was kinda average but it wasn't a big deal since it's not the point for this game.
So, if you wanna dive deep into your psyche and question your existance in an entertaining way, give this game a shot.

SOMA is that kind of game which will stick with you for the rest of your life. Why do I say that ? Let me tell you why :
SOMA is an ambitious, cerebral and well crafted sci-fi horror-adventure with a story that buries a secret underwater, beneath the ocean. The first few minutes may seem kinda "hmm, I wonder where is all of this going ?" but after the SCAN (gonna use just that so I won't spoil anything), the fun begins.
The game itself is complex and dark. The detailed world, the marvelous background design (visually it's amazing), the tension and oppressive atmosphere alongside the pulsating music, creepy and solid sound effects makes you stay on the edge of your seat during the whole playthrough. I was on alert mode the entire game especially during the encounters with certain enemies.
The voice acting is top tier, chapeau bas to the actors behind the characters. The interaction between Simon and Cath felt so real. Also on a side note, as a gamer who likes to explore the lore of a game, I loved listening to all the recordings from all locations.
The story is fantastic. The people behind the game used a very smart way of developing the story. Developing the story around the idea of consciousness and the brain is something else. A master stroke if you ask me.
I will finish this review by saying only this : SOMA is not just a game. It's not just about the horror genre... it's beyond that. It's about the importance of consciousness and essence of humanity.
SOMA isn't just one of the best horror games ever made, it's one of the best pieces of horror fiction I've come across in any medium. Distilled soul crushing existential dread.
