This is the best adaptation of the 5th edition rule to date. I'm amazed at the job this very small studio has done.
The graphics aren't going to wow you but the complexity of combat will. It's a fantastic dungeon crawl. Get it.
I love the old school feel!
Graphics are circa 2010, which is good enough.
Its more annoying to save scum, which in general is a good thing, but the die rolls tend to suck, and often require multiple successful rolls.
So far its a fun game, but there is no undo or preview, which in and of itself is not a huge issue...except... that there are zero prompts to tell you that you will provoke an attack of opportunity or otherwise do something stupid or detrimental. there are several occasions where i was almost done with a long and difficult fight and on the verge of winning without anyone dying and then, "oops, you inadvertantly provoked an attack of opportunity and got killed".
so far from what ive seen, you really do need a good balance of skills, stats, and classes to "do everything", so you cant just min max the hell out of combat and neglect the personality skills as actual role playing has meaning and impact.
my biggest gripes are that the UI is kind of barebones, clunky, and cumbersome, and that there isnt enough feedback to tell you when you will do something detrimental. There have also been a few traps that you cannot interact with other than to trip them, but i expect that these issues will be resolved in upcoming patches. all in all its a pretty fun game so far and i really look forward to seeing what will happen as it gets polished and updated.
I have over 400 hours in game via another source.
I have never before found a PC DnD game, that so well replicated the feel of a table tops session. The voice acting, passable, is not at all unlike listening to your pals sitting across the table from you, snarking at something stupid you have done.
Faithfully brought to the PC, I have high hopes for Tactical Adventures continuing to build on this foundation.
I was axious to play this game because it looked like everything I liked about rpgs and it lacked everything I don't like about rps. Somebody wrote it is everything that Baldur's Gate 3 schould have been and from what I have seen, that might very well be true.
The problem is that the game chrashes frequently to dektop without so match of an error message. It is bugged to point that doesn't really allow for any kind of play.
All you get when the program chrashes is a pop-up from the Unity-engine with a unspecified progress-bar. Is it phoning home, like so many Unity-based games?
I don't now and I don't care, because I will never play this game again. It should not have been released in this state. Period.
