What I hoped would be a decent collection of SNK’s early gaming efforts ended up being one of the most impressive retro compilations I’ve encountered in recent memory. While not every game included will excite more casual players, those who do have an appreciation for the library offered here will find them presented with a level of care, concern, and passion that is too rarely seen.

Overall, SNK 40th Anniversary Collection has titles that old school arcade gamers are sure to appreciate and also does an impressive job of diving deep into the company’s four-decade history. However, this may be even more of a niche collection than the Capcom Beat’em Up Bundle, which could work against it in the end..

A love letter to electronic games

I want to base my analysis on a simple but relevant point: this collection is a vital part of the history of electronic games! Some of the games have not aged very well, but most have fun like never before, arouse feelings, reproduce good memories and, more than that, show why SNK was so loved during its golden years, which go far beyond "The King of Fighters "and" Metal Slug ". Everything sounds good. The collection is 100% functional. Good menus, good controls and excellent emulation. The mere fact that you play video games should make this collection a must-buy, but the fact that it is 100% DRM-Free leaves what is already good even better. Dear GOG users, no matter what your favorite game genre is, this collection is for you. Collaborate with good products like this around here. Have a good game!

Quality Pack

I was hesitant to buy yet another arcade collection, but this one is a cut above the rest. You can tell that SNK put their heart and soul into this collection. Every image they use is top notch and the selection is excellent. I highly recommend picking this up for anyone who loves the arcade classics.

Crystalis

I bought it for Crystalis. One of the best NES games made. The emulation is very good. It has good controls and the SNK 30th edition also offers extra art, etc. Well worth it. :) Glad to see it on GOG.

Nice collection! Turn off VR sync!!!

Turn off the VR sync in options or it's almost unplayable. It's got about 25 games. Plus Japan and console versions of most of those games. Some of with are pretty different like Guerrilla War. Pretty good game selection and it works great with an Xbox controller. I got it to play on sale to play while I'm injured and it's the perfect selection for that. Very well done. Worth a buy even at full price. Especially with all the options!

SNK before NeoGeo

Just like it say, this is a collection of SNK games before they made the NeoGeo and became more widely known. So the highlights of this to the average gamer would be Crystalis and the Ikari Warriors games. Crystalis is an action RPG that released first on the NES, plays well and has an interesting story. Shame for the most part SNK never released any RPG's after this except the Samurai Showdown one that released in Japan on the SS, PSOne and NeoGeo CD. As for Ikari Warriors they're top down action shooters where you destroy tanks, soldiers and entrenchments if I remember this last one correctly. You can even gain a tank which gives you a bit of health to sustain gameplay. You can shoot in all directions I believe(can't remember if you could shoot behind) which was accomplished in the arcade by a twistable/rotatable joystick. This was an arcade game that was always fun for a while. Here's hoping SNK has another pre-NeoGeo collection gathering anything left. Also I hope to see more collections like this, esp. from Taito and Success.
