Silent Hill 4: The Room

(Iam halfway through the game while writing this) This game has a great story, works flawless, has a amazing soundtrack and interesting gameplay mechanics. The puzzles are well implemented in the game world, Avoiding combat and facing enemies seems to be both a viable strategy the apartment is well designed and has a great atmosphere monster design is most of the time splendid best antagonist I have seen for a long time However this game has issues: the sound design on some enemies is just terrible, this hurts the atmosphere alot the game get's a bit annoying by constantly returning to the apartment to save etc the game seems a bit too easy (playing on normal) most weapons feel redundant the game seems rushed it's definitely worth it if you want a classic horror game but expect flaws

This game is different. I warn nostalgic players of trilogy you hit something different and maybe you will dont like it. Maybe you dont even find out this game can run in 1920x1080 and 144Hz. Maybe you cant even remember how to save this game and you will start to be frustrated. Forget everything and gradually find out what to set where, how to save the game, how to use weapons and heals and where to store them. The graphics are not the best, but the rest is still of good quality. If you get through this, you will have a good experience. If not... well. Try it next time.

The original Silent Hill did not need a sequel, but with games 2-3, they did both of the perfect ways to do it. After this one they tended to just do the same thing with a little variation over and over. This was not originally meant to be part of the franchise; it feels like an experiment which is largely successful but definitely not what people expected based on the trilogy preceding it. If for you those three represent ideal Silent Hill this might seriously put you off; if you are okay with something that goes in a different direction than this has a lot to love. One of the biggest things is that while this is often creepy it is not anywhere near a scary as the trilogy. The tank controls are changed so now no matter what directional key you press you actually do immediately move in that direction. This can get annoying when the camera abruptly shifts. Some really hate how this changes some of the lore and certainly it does show that this was not the original plan. The player character is a charisma black hole with no personality - he lacks a personal connection to the supernatural phenomena unlike the trilogy and this of course means that you don't care as much about him and he feels slightly divorced from what's going on. The inventory system now resembles Resident Evil’s and provides a different kind of challenge to the trilogy. If gun use is very important to you for Silent Hill, this is not for you. This has some of the most mind-blowing puzzles. Multiple levels clearly seek to get the player invested in what happens to certain characters and frequently it just does not quite succeed in this despite how well the trilogy did at accomplishing the same thing. The story itself is good; throughout I found myself really wanting to learn more about what was going on and be part of resolving the conflicts set up. A significant chunk of this is one of the dreaded escort missions and it definitely could easily have been avoided with a rewrite early in development.

My OG PS2 slim self destructed in the middle of playing SH4 and caused a major scratch on the bottom of my disc. Terribly saddened as SH4 was the only reason I kept the PS2 for so long I was ecstatic when i saw GOG had a port. Game is awesome but I’m having a few issues a can’t seem to pin down. Game crashes randomly and sometimes controller just stops working. My current workaround is to save every chance I get. Not sure if GOG launcher is the problem or my PC but still I highly recommend this game.

Seems pretty interesting but I have an Issue, I previously played resident evil 2 and it worked perfectly, if I switched tabs the game was still working, but with this one it doesn´t work
