... or the Steam reviews. Or even the critic reviews. It seems that the people who are actually playing the game are really enjoying it. I'm very glad I didn't listen to the review bombers. The game is fantastic. It looks phenomenal, and has atmosphere you can cut with a knife. It seems spookier than the original, however, I did also appreciate the impressive range of accessibility options, including the option to highlight friends and foe, which could reduce scares for those who need it (which could easily be me down the line!). Performance is... OK on my laptop with a GTX4080. I can run it on "high" with a decent frame rate, but the game does tend to stutter occasionally. You can always make use of GoG's generous 30 day refund policy, if your PC is not up to task.

An excellent remake.

Despite the bizzare negative reputation of Bloober team, (behind the similarly excellent The Medium) this game is a prime example of a remake done right, with utmost respect and love for the source material. Unlike one of the previous western made Silent Hill games, Homecoming, the changes to combat make sense and feel really good. The sin of Homecoming, shoving combat on you repeatedly, is not repeated here. It's better, much better, but it's not shoved in your face and made the prime attraction. The main event here is the town itself and the characters, and they've never been better. Konami secured excellent VA talent to bring the cast to life, and added nice touches to flesh them out just a smidge better. Make sure to look for the various easter eggs sprinkled throughout hinting at connections to the classic game. They have expanded on events to give the game more playtime, and unlike a remake like Final Fantasy 7, it fits and feels natural. Ignore the permanently offended puritanical conservative gooners meddling with things they do not understand, if you love survival horror, this one is an absolute treat.

Conflicted

I don't buy games new. Ever. But when I saw that GOG was getting SH2 Remake, I knew that I had to pony up for this. If only to continue encouraging Konami to keep supporting GOG as a platform. So yes, if you are like me and you see this on sale for NEARLY 70 DOLLARS, I would say that it is probably worth picking up. Even still, I feel very annoyed that I am being made to pick SH2 remake up on GOG for $70. I am primarily giving my 5 stars for the fact that we're getting a new game from a developer like Konami on here and largely no other reasons. Make no mistake, this game has problems up the wazoo. Do you have less than optimal hardware? Enjoy running this on the lowest settings possible. The reviews which slag this one off for performance aren't joking. Despite the fact that SH2R is caked in fog, this runs like absolute dog water. I remember a time when fog was apparently used to improve performance but apparently the game is rendering each fog particle individually. Obviously this is what is really going to engage the player. But even still this is seemingly a reasonably faithful retelling of Silent Hill 2. More importantly it's here on GOG. I'm not joking when I say that feels like a minor miracle. If you are a great supporter of the platform and love Silent Hill 2 like I do, this one is absolutely a must buy. The question I would pose to you, though - is it worth buying at its suggested retail price of NINETY FOUR CANADIAN DOLLARS? Absolutely not. No way. No how. I picked up Silent Hill 2 on the PS2 for $20 and everyone knows that's the optimal way of playing this game. The pricing is absolutely embarrassing and under no circumstances should you buy it for what they're asking for on here. Make no mistake - it's a great game but you've played it before. Even if the combat system is different, I'm confident in telling you that what they're asking for on every digital platform is unquestionably too much. While it's absolutely worth purchasing, wait for a sale

Pretty faithful remake.

The remake improved graphices and gameplay while retaining the superb story telling and atmosphere of the original. The only downside is its poor performance.
