This is a worthy successor to classic games like Commandos and Desperados. It does everything right. Addictive gameplay, interesting characters and story, stellar voice acting and memorable music. It's a great game and I recommend it highly.
I played few of the first Commando games way back. They didn't so-to-say click back then at all. Way too precise things were needed everywhere. Now like decades later this happened to be on Gamepass and decided to give it a try. Boy I was glad I did. One of the best games I've ever made. Really nice plot, good characters, dynamic missions, awesome maps, nice skillset with many characters and in some parts it really felt you have few options to proceed, which the original Commandos series lacked very badly and everything felt so scripted all the time. Now I'll be honest, there's quite a bit of that here too, but for some reason it didn't bother me virtually at all.
If you "semi liked" Commandos, then this will be your game, hands down. I actually enjoyed this so much that I absolutely loved the midwest themed Desperados 3, which is also insanely good title on par with this imo.
I really wish I would've bought this years back as fully priced title.
The voice over is very good. I set it in Japanese. Though I don't know if they are good for Japanese people though.
The graphism are perfect and the whole writing helps the player to be in Japan, Edo period ?
This exceeds the board game in every way. A good concept with a wonderful art style, likeable characters, fun gameplay and fantastic polish. While there might be better values out there in terms of volume, this is a flawless game. Buy with confidence.
I remember when Blizzard used to make games like this.
Absolutely fantastic from the start to finish. Really kept me scratching my head for ways to finish the missions which there were more of than I actually anticipated. Took me a long time to finish and for not-so-hardcore player like myself the difficulty was just on the edge of being able to finish. But every time I really hit a bump it was just my own fault, and when doing the same thing the next day I suddenly found a way out of the difficult situation very easily. All about keeping your mind fresh :)
Buy it. Really. Worth every penny if you're into puzzle/strategy, and you really can play it just at your own pace which I really enjoyed. Doesn't hurry you up at any point. The characters are also nicely varied and the game really does use every single skill at your disposal.
