I'm not going to finish the game. The controls and movement are sloppy. The "combat" element is very poorly implemented. I had an enemy magically clip in behind me in an empty room, and then a few minutes later an enemy charged through a solid obstacle and killed me. No thanks.
How can a horror game with so much gore you wouldn't believe can be this relaxing?

Great art and atmosphere, ruined by a horrible combat system which doesn't add anything.
Enemies are not frightening, nor do they provide tension. They're just pure tedium and frustration, due to their bullet spongy nature.
Some claim it may be possible to avoid almost every encounter. I couldn't be bothered to try that, even though i wouldn't have a problem with a"walking simulators" i definitely don't have the patience for a "waiting simulator".
Usually i play games at the hardest difficulty available(as long as it's not just an uninspired high health pool), so it's not like i'm "bad at gaming", but combat just doesn't fit in this one.
Guess i'll have to find a mod or something to enable invincibility now, to get the enjoyment back i had at the start, before those stupid mobs started pouring in.
This game is absolutely going to suit a specific taste. I have played and completed it (about 9 hours) and found it a visceral, hideous, and amazing experience. Scorn tells its story entirely by showing, and does not hand holding. As such, it is possible you may interpret the events that unfold differently from how I did, but that's okay; it's not a game that is meant to provide you with a concise and clear storyline, but instead a grim, visceral and oftimes unnerving experience.
Key items to note:
--It's a walking simulator with some light puzzle and combat elements; don't play this expecting a shooter, and be prepared for some puzzles that are slightly harder than normal, but not overly so.
--Scorn is dialogue-free; the story telling is 100% based on environment, action and your interpretation therewith.
--Scorn is heavily influenced by H.R. Giger's works and also a bit of Vladislav Beksinski's art style. If you enjoy such thematics, this game will be especially satisfying.
--Scorn is a world where happy endings, humanity, and even the notions of self may have dried up and died in countless prior eons. Play this game for something unique and posthuman, but do not play it to feel good or have a happy ending.
This is a finely sculpted horror-scape, and it really is sculpted, absolutely every surface and animation was done in the art style. The developers put an incredible amount of work into this, and they told a story with no speech or writing. All you have is interaction, which all involves you and everything around you causing suffering, sometimes to helpless victims. The bio-mechanical aspect of it was breathtaking, with references to Giger's erotic art incorporated into the last section, though there are hints of it in earlier visuals.
The puzzles reminded me a bit of earlier Tomb Raider games, a sort of "how do I get this to there" scenario, and they gave a good framework to explore the environment and get in its mindset. The combat was done in a sort of Resident Evil style, where ammo and health are limited, so every enemy makes you contemplate whether you have enough time to place a hit that counts, and often you'll see something and run away, so the enemies are more there to create tension than a challenge to overcome - you never overcome in this game, only suffering wins. All of the game kind of feels like a sick joke played on you by environment, which is, after all, alive, by all appearances.
I really love this game, I think to create this much of a horror-scape in any medium is an achievement, and I'm so glad this exists. I think it's a great contribution to horror as an art-form.
