Rayman 2: The Great Escape

What has taken me so long to get into this series? Rayman 2 is easily one of the most well paced and engaging platformers I've ever played, and calling it the 'Mario of PC' is not hyperbole in the slightest. In fact, Rayman manages to ascend even higher in some regards. Constant variety in gameplay married to a unified aesthetic carries the game from beginning to end. Absolutely fantastic 3d platformer, previously owned it on Dreamcast, DS and 3ds and I'm happy to say the PC version is the best yet. Always preferred this to Rayman 3, I find the fairy tale ambience and the gibberish voices far more atmospheric than the American voice acting in the sequel. Couple of points, make sure you load up the nglide exe in the Rayman folder so you can set it to your resolution and if your gamepad isn't working there's a link to a dll on the forums. Can't recommend it enough!

A warning to those just reading the 5 star reviews. This game is littered with awful level design, bad camera angles and sometimes glitchy controls. In fact I remember playing the dreamcast demo of this on a disc and had the same thoughts then. The graphics were and still are great, so is the music and atmosphere, but it's just not a very good game. I've rage quite several times and eventually just didn't feel like ever playing again. I got to one point in the game since it felt like my deaths were just random that I put the controller down and sure enough, sometimes I would die and sometimes he would drift past obstacles, crazy right? Give it a go if it was a childhood favorite and you memorized all the troublesome aspects of it. Otherwize I would steer clear, pick up Rayman 3 instead, that game fixed all of these issues and is great fun.

Was excellent back on the PS1 and this PC version is also great. Slightly buggy, but overall a good experience. Collecting Lums can be a bit annoying. Love the dark tone of this game and the creepy feeling.

This game is awesome. I enjoyed it as a kid and it's still worth it 15 years later. The only problem with this version is the mapping of the xbox 360 controller. Since there is no control options available in the game menu, I'll probably remap the controls with "joy to key" to have better camera controls.
