One series to remember

I always had a soft spot in my heart for Quest for Glory. There are so many things done right that it's hard to pick exactly where to start. First and foremost, it managed to bring together the best of RPGs and Adventure games in an amazing mix, which was made even better by the fact most scenarios had different solutions and even the game itself had different outcomes depending on your choices and how much you did. Secondly, it has one of my all-time favorite soundtracks. Mark Seibert is responsible for many excellent themes even on old soundboards, and Chance Thomas makes sure to keep the tradition on the fifth episode. The tunes manage to stir deep strings in my heart at many times, especially QfG2. The little details in the plot and the ways in which the chapters connect and evolve should also be noted. The themes may vary, but there is an amazing progression of the characters as he grows from a wannabe hero into... well, no spoilers, but the saga does end in a great note. The little things also matter a lot here. Be it the constant but never intrusive humor, or the several cultural references and amazing folklore tapped to create a rich tapestry that digs into Germanic, Middle-eastern, African, Russian and Greek mythologies. Even with the several game-breaking bugs of QfG4, this collection could only be made better if they offered the soundtrack as a separate download. If you love adventures and ever dreamed of becoming a hero, these are the games for you.

A milestone in gaming

This is one of Sierra's under-rated, under deconstructed, under appreciated titles. This cult classic introduced the idea that roleplaying did not need to be segmented, that roleplaying was to be enjoyed, and ingenuity was a virtue. The brainchild of Lori and Corey Cole, this game combines what is perhaps the best of Dungeons and Dragons with Sierra. All that potential for actually identifying with the character, and totally live through the character in a different world, with all the color, charm, and wit of Sierra. How cool is that!? This game pushed the envelope game mechanics wise, and was very, very well done. I still fondly remember Tarna, Mordavia, Speilburg, Shapier, and Silmaria. There were indeed bugs with the games, but at no point did these bugs detract from the over all experience. They were just minor setbacks. I bet that GOG has patched these, and these games run better than I remember now. You need to have this game, if not to round out your RPG collection, but to deconstruct the game's methods itself. See HOW the game get's you to become your character, associate with the inhabitants, how the world changes and comes to know. I love this game deeply. It is an intrisic part of my childhood, and helped me get through some tough patches in my life. I hope whoever is reading this at least tries these games out, because you have no clue what this gem is. It might not be Sierra's most well know gem, but it is still a gem nonethe less. Save often, explore long, and play hard.

GREAT VALUE!

this collection is awsome! might need a walkthrough though, the puzzles can be challenging. the music is great, to me the graphics are for the most part very enjoyable, except for the first two games in cga, and the combat is exiting and well paced. to finish these games is satisfying if you do it on your own, and if you use a walkthough it still feels good to know you completed them. all in all, these games are inovative gems that can't be missed.

THE game of all games to me...

The Quest for Glory and Kings Quest series are what got me hooked on adventure gaming and computers in general. Nothing has EVER matched it, nothing has ever come even close to the magic, character, sheer thrill of gameplay as this series was to me. What can I say, despite leap years in technology, this is the game that can swallow me whole and envelope me completely into a land where I actually exist while playing. True love! Thanks GOG for bringing it back. XOXO

Oh the good ol days revisited

I have been waiting so long for this game to come to GOG for all people to enjoy. I waited so long like the Katta stuck at the Inn in QFG 1. Like Abdullah the merchant who got raided by the band of thieving brigands. Like Brauggi the frost giant seeking gems. Like so many characters waiting for the winter frost to leave Spielburg. But no longer, GOG has completed their quest for glory by allowing GOG fans to purchase this product. This game conjures up so many fond memories. When people were playing Doom 98 or Counterstrike or even Kings quest, I nurtured my soul and imagination with the QFG series. This game has all the elements of great story telling. Lori and Cory Cole are excellent directors and producers. The puns, the characters, and the settings all bring the best of fantasy to an RPG click-and-pick. You could pick between 3 types of characters and be a paladin depending on the choices you made. There was never a doubt in my mind this game would succeed had it had the chance and marketing King's Quest had. Quest for Glory 5 made it even BETTER because of the music, the return of nostalgic characters, and of course the return of our dedicated Hero. Unfortunately I had bought all these games awhile ago, and had I known GOG would do this I would've waited. But alas, you (the potential QFG fan) can enjoy this game like I had all those years ago. In the immortalized words of Levar Burton, "You don't have to take my word for it".
