Quake III: Gold brings you the most lethal duo on the planet in an Arena collection guaranteed to leave you black, blue and begging for more.
Quake III Arena
Welcome to the Arena, where high-ranking warriors are transformed into spineless mush. Abandoning every ounce of common sense and any trace of doubt, you lunge onto a stage of narrowing landscapes and veiled abysses. Your new environment rejects you with lava pits and atmospheric hazards as legions of foes surround you, testing the gut reaction that brought you here in the first place. Your new mantra, fight or be finished.
Quake III Team Arena
You entered the Arena alone. Now it's time to share the glory. Create an alliance of forces where teamwork is the only method to achieve total dominance. A distinct games test each troop's synthesis and strength to exacting degrees. Co-operation is the only course of action. And war.... the only alternative. Soldiers, once alone in their struggle, now face the arena as one.
Great Multiplayer, Way too high a price especially in Australia I got this game for $10 over 10 years ago brand new. $28.69 here in Australia what the hell.....
Quake 3 is the game that got me into first person shooters...
Though I prefer the first Quake game over Quake 3, I played Quake 3 first. I first played Quake 3 Arena on the old Sega Dreamcast, then the CD-ROM on PC in Windows ME. The multiplayer of Quake 3, even against bots, still stands up long after its 1999 debut. The ioquake3 source port for Linux and Mac has seen to it every operating system can run Quake 3. The smorgasborg of user-created maps and skins have stretched out the life of Quake 3 exponentially. If you've got $15 to blow, or less when it's on sale, grab Quake 3.
There is something about the simplicity and blistering pace of Quake III that makes it simply impossible to put down for more than 24 hours. You may only need a 15-30 minute fix, but I can assure you that you WILL be coming back at least once a day.
GRAPHICS:
The graphics bright and colourful, and can be tuned to run smoothly on just about anything.
SOUND:
Sound effects are good, and weapons sound just like you imagine they would. From the crunchy blast of a shotgun to the futuristic "pew pew" of a plasma gun, the weapons sound just as satisfying as they are to use. The announcer could have used a few more lines of dialogue if you ask me (I do appreciate him rating my performance, but hearing him say "excellent" will get pretty old after about the hundredth time). On a much more specific note, there is something oddly, extremely satisfying about the tinny crunch sound that plays whenever you pick up an Armor Shard. Seriously, look it up on YouTube!
GAMEPLAY:
This game is fast, Seriously fast. This game is chugging-an-entire-bottle-of-Mountain-Dew-and-then-setting-a-land-speed-record-in-a-Bugatti-Veyron-powered-by-Usain-Bolt's-sweat fast. Playing Quake III for just 20 minutes will give your eyes quite a workout, and all other shooters will seem like they're being played in slow motion after about a week of playing this.
OVERALL:
Do I recommend Quake III? FRICK YES I DO!!! Is $20 a fair price for a game this old, even though it's one of the best shooters ever made? Not at all, you should definitely wait until it goes on sale for $9.99.
This is a very good competitive shooter with big community, and a lot of mods, maps. And yes its better then Quake Live.
BUT WHAT THE HELL WITH PRICE??? Its expensive on steam also (but a bit cheaper).
ID and Bethesda do you realise this game is very ancient? It has some minor graphic issues on very high resolutions, it has very bad server searcher, it has famous bug called Over Bounce witch was fixed only in ProMode. And for me its unplayable without OSP or CPMA (or other quality mods).
I advice users better buy Unreal Tournament 99 or wait for Unreal Tournament 4 (it will be free game).
ID and Bethesda do you feel differences Unreal Tournament 4 on modern engine is free and old Quake3 is 20 bucks (13 on steam)?
