One of my favourite games of all-time. Just a beautiful video game, complete with a great story, excellent visuals and amazing game play. When I first played POP: SOT the combat system blew me away, and this game will always have a special place in my heart. If you've never played it, you OWE it to yourself to buy it and experience it.
Prince of Persia was known as an old-school 2D platformer when Ubisoft decided to create a new Prince of Persia game.
They did an amazing job at creating a new game from it:
- Great platforming system (many spectacular moves)
- Interesting story, more developed than the original Prince of Persia
- The sands of Time allows to rewind a bit in the game in case of death or accidents... this really remove all the frustration of miscalculating a jumb or making the wrong move during a combat
Combat are mostly fun but this is not the focus of the game.
If you like platformers, then you NEED to play this one (and the rest of the trilogy but for that, we need that Ubisoft releases it on GoG).
I used to have this on xbox but never really got into it when it I had the chance. I did have good memories of it so when I saw it here I thought it was a great idea and jumped right on it and it was a good choice. I thought I would use a controller but as it turns out the game plays surprisingly well with a keyboard and mouse, but the choice is yours. Its a great buy but I'm not really saying anything new just tossing in my upwardly bound thumbs along with everyone else.
I will add that I'm running it on my linux system with wine for anyone thinking of doing the same. Though like most people the fog and water effects need to be turned off, but it still looks, runs, and plays great after that. There are no guarantees with wine but this is a good bet. Now I'm hoping other POP games make it on to gog sometime soon.
As far as I know, ever since I began this game, I've loved it. I bought it first for PS2, then I bought it for the 360 (backwards compatible) just to play on the gamepad. Now I'm thinking of playing it again on the computer. The game is amazing. The story and voice-acting are amazing. Don't go by the movie. This is superior in every way, from the challenging-but-fair levels to the awesome fights, this is one game that got everything right.
First, and maybe the best installment in the excellent trilogy. I like to view them as a whole. Each part has its own "uniqueness", but they are all part of a amazing puzzle.
If you're into this kind of games, don't miss it, it's one of the best in the genre.
Too bad everything went terribly downhill for the prince after the trilogy...
