I found it is best played in core difficulty, which forces you to use the whole game (scrolls, potions, etc). Otherwise it is a bit too easy so details no longer matter. Obviously, it means slower in-game progress. But that is worth it, especially if you are familiar with the similar titles. I think Baldur Gates 3 is challenged by this natural successor to BG2.
I liked Kingmaker a lot, but it had some quirks that stopped me from outright loving it. Wrath of the Righteous on the other hand is everything good about Kingmaker with a lot of the bad taken out. You no longer feel like you're constantly on a clock, the narrative is epic and one long story rather than separated and the strategy "crusade management" can be turned off on launch and seems to cause no issues.
The RtwP combat is excellent. Normal difficulty is pretty easy, so don't be afraid to move it up a notch or two. Once you do you'll find the same great and rewarding experience Kingmaker had in this area, but with cooler enemies and better designed encounters. Half the time in Kingmaker it seemed like a bunch of wolves randomly slapped down, but WotR improves on this a ton.
The bad? Some of the companions are a little too quirky and silly for me, and the game is still relatively slow moving even for the genre. The new rotating camera also often causes more hassle than it's worth, with you having to manage it quite a bit in tight corridors especially. Of course the benefit of this is full 360 degree environments, which is cool.
All in all Wrath of the Righteous takes the great stuff about Kingmaker and adds improvements on top, making for a wonderful RPG experience. If you like this genre, don't miss out!
This game wastes your time! The loading screens take too long! Slow world map speed and lots of boring encounters!
Made more pleasurable with the following mods:
1) ToyBox to increase world map speed
2) Combat relief to skip the encounters
I grew up playing CRPGs on my dad's crappy hand-me-down. I haven't had such an awesome CRPG experience since the late 90's like this one. I played Pathfinder: Kingmaker and it was good but had it's issues. This game perfected what was somewhat lacking. This game is HUGE -- there are so many decisions and paths to take your character. I love games that have so much depth you no longer care about how long the game is; you're just playing and having fun. That's what this game is to me. I love the character's, the voice acting, the story, and everything in between -- even the sound and music! I think the only way you won't like this game is if you don't like CRPG's, crazy character customization, or are jaded by the gaming industry. I would have paid more, but I don't buy deluxe editions, etc. Thanks Owlcat, I'll be playing this for months to come.
Titel says it all, needs som bugs fixing etc. That can frustrate abit. But this is one of those rare games who are complicatet and rewards the player for learning the games mecanics.
Great story, great companions so many ways to replay the story and eksperince it different.
For me its one of those rare games i would put in the categori with Baldurs gate 2 on of the best rpgs imo, ever made.
Be patient with it and i time it will shine... :)
