One of my all-time favorites
If you liked Pillars games and the games they are based off of you will probably love this game. Something that this game did better then any I've ever played is how it makes you feel like a true hero. Does it have some flaws? Sure, but they pale in comparison to what it does right, which is a LOT.

Just bad storytelling
The most important part of an RPG is the storytelling. This game, it never felt like I could care about the story. the main character feels cookie-cutter, no background at all. Most of the companions, even those with background, I cared about even less, and the game forced me into accepting characters that were written at a relatively low quality and very obvious who was really a villain, who wasn't. That could be partially forgiven if the mechanics worked well, but they just didn't. The game was designed to be very difficult, artificially so, such that unless you play specific optimizations, knowing in advance what you will encounter, you are likely to get destroyed. Again and again. Note, that's on "normal" difficulty, not one of the extra high difficulty levels aimed at people who prefer such. Several areas are designed in ways that can induce vertigo in those who are susceptible, with no warning of the design elements. Overall, I just found too many "routine" monsters that were immune to everything a "normal" party had at that point, including having an armor class so high as to be effectively immune to physical attacks. We're not talking end-game bosses here, but monsters encountered around level 10 (in theory, close to half-way through the game), being as hard to deal with as the end-game bosses in the preceding game from a pure statistical perspective -- yet encountered ten levels earlier. The changes in traps (must carefully move a character around to find the "trap deactivation point" way away from the trap) also reduced enjoyment in the game.

Great game with many bugs
I love this game, but it is clear that it is unpolished and the intention is to fix the bugs down the road. Playing now can be quite frustrating. View the game as an early access and expect to play the final version in a few months.

Conflicted
I do enjoy the game. Really! For a RPG, it is as deep and wide as a mountain lake; deep in lore, and wide in content. One can spend hours in Character Creation, designing builds, and imagining various races, classes, and characters one would be enjoyable to see as their Mythic being. And one can choose as to the gameplay choices: Turn-Based, Action, or a mix of both, so the player decides how to swim in this epic title. I adore the idea that one can play epic legends; not just another trip to the low level wading pool often associated with the genre. One can tire in such games from the usual vermin and humanoid encounters. This game allows for one to be elevated to combating creatures of the Planes, and terrible beasts of lore. And the player may choose to have Saves, tutorials, and tips as a lifeguard at hand, or not. Freedom of choice is a wonderful resource! But then one encounters Act 4. It is frustatingly challenging; so much so that I took a break of a year before giving it a go again. And I am doing better, but this section is such a slog, it quickly wears one down with fatigue; in game, and in RL. And I cannot approve of such game design. I basically can survive a couple of encounters, then I can choose to rest again, or push forward with dwindled resources. It took four sessions to advance one quest, and that was a side mission at that. Tiring. Now I am around 300 hours due to my choice of playing Turn Based combat, and am not even at the final Chapter; am still mired down in this level. And while I adore the characters, stories, and possibilities of what may happen, I am also fatigued by the repetative gameplay I must seemingly endure to get there. And still have yet to play any of the DLC! So I do like the swim thus far, but be warned that one may not reach the shore on the other side.

Loved It
I played for ~300 hours on one play through, constantly trying out new builds. The customization is insane for a CRPG, the narrative is equally heartwarming and blood-pumping, and the soundtrack makes you completely resonate with the events of the game
