Awesome at last

PF:K by Owlcats was a brilliant, but it was ... a bit dirty I was disappointed and wanted to get a refund for PF:K preorder, due to enormous amount of bugs. But not EE now. It's polished, it sweet, sophisticated story plots are working as expected, Some companions are bad if you want power gaming and trash for min-maxers, useless classes, low-avg stats. Bah! But I will play with Amiri at my side, she's cool! As I played with Minsc, who is suboptimal. Base game mechanics are close to PnP game, which makes it's hard on battles sometimes. Cmon! You don't have that much fights on table as you do in PC game. But It's can be dealt with. You HAVE options to avoid some battles. Kingdom management still not so clear (Should I build port? Or a alchemist? A blacksmith? Do I need a wall? Hey, where the ... my points?), but you'll learn fast. Also game settings allow player to "read the story" while moving characters through the map. So yep. All hail Owlcats, you did it right. After a year+, but that's worth it.

Very good game

Having actually finished the game, here are my thoughts: Graphics&Music: Very nice, colorful, vibrant, run without stuttering or fps drops on max settings. Haven't had one crash or ctd throughout my playthrough. Music is actually quite good, fits the game's atmosphere perfectly, no complaints here. Story&Writing: Fun, entertaining tale touching on some deeper RL issues if you dig into it enough. I appreciated the brevity of the writing style, it's to the point while remaining interesting. A few translation errors do pop up from time to time. Characters and companions are decent but they sometimes feel a bit underdeveloped. The game is very reactive however and your choices actually do have consequences, even the ones you make early in the game will be referred to later in the game. Different alignments also offer different options, so the game has a lot of replay value. Combat etc: Difficult is out of whack especially in the final areas. Not really sure what the devs were thinking with some of the wild hunt mobs at the end area. Not to mention the bugged debuff you can get from them. Having only played crpg dnd games I was unfamiliar with pathfinder rules so a comprehensive manual in-game or even as a pdf would have been nice. Oh well. Kingdom Management: You get a pretty expansive kingdom management feature, somewhat similar to DA:I's but PFKM does it a lot better. You have time limits on most quests and kingdom problems and such but balancing the two is part of the fun imo. I enjoyed it thoroughly. Bugs: So. Many. Bugs. Companion quests not triggering, encounters not triggering, getting stuck in cutscenes, map bugging out, advisor cards getting stuck etc it's a bugfest the further you progress into the game, some of them gamebreaking as well. Once the devs iron out the bugs and do some additional tweaking to it this will be a great game.

I think they want us to hate it.

Let me start off by saying, I love pathfinder. The pnp game is how I play d&d, has been for years. I finally picked this game up, all sorts of excited, and hell yeah. They nailed the setting, the feel, it's got the new classes like alchemist (no witch tho, boo.) everything about this just screams "this is the best CRPG I will ever play". So what happened? The devs. There's so much wrong here that it must be intentional. Pull the switch to raise and lower the swords statues are holding, as a puzzle? has any gamer ever actually liked those? But I'm willing to look past the awful 2001 puzzle design. I'm willing to look past the forced time limit (wasn't that the first thing we modded out of fallout 1?). I'm willing to look past literally being at a point right now where an npc said "just sit around and wait for x to happen so we can proceed" during said timed quest, which... What the hell? But then, something happened that instantly knocked off 2 stars, because it's intentional and the devs did it on purpose. You come across a body, make a knowledge nature check. I have a bit, none of the npcs freaking do, so it tells me nothing but "these people are dead". a bit away there's a campsite, cool. I'm out of supplies and you have to sleep EVERY FIVE MINUTES in this game, and I've been sleeping near dead bodies all game. So I avail myself of the free camp. To be woken up by a freaking demilich. With an ac in the high 30s. who isn't harmed by cure spells for some reason. I'm level 3. You know what's immersion breaking and just awful game design? "you didn't see the thing we gave you very little hint about, because you failed a check with a 6 in that skill. Instant death, nothing you can do, use all of your health potions and you'll still die. Just reload." And what really angers me? knowledge nature? It's death by undead. that's KNOWLEDGE RELIGION. Guess what I did have a lot of? Troll game developers lose stars. And the game is terribly optimized on mac.

Review and If You Get A Black Screen.

Even with low resolution, the graphics are nice. There are many lows here and there of what could have been and what isn't in the game is depending on your taste and expectations in an RPG. I think Pathfinder: Kingmaker is a very well done RPG. For anyone that reads this review, keep note when launching it for the first time that if the controller is hooked in the screen might be black. Just make sure to disconnect the controller when launching the game and the picture should be normal to play and then hook it up after the setup.

Lots of Replay

I really enjoyed this game, but I agree with other reviewers that the timer on quests is very frustrating and annoying and caused more stress than fun. Replay-ability is high though - lots of different paths to explore, lots of different characters to interact with. A lot of quests will have different outcomes based on who you bring with you, which makes it interesting and fun to play.
