I'm glad people enjoyed this game but I love RPG's but this one is just not any fun. The mechanics were fine, character creation, etc. just fine but it wasn't fun for me at all. You may have a different experience of course so read the other reviews to see why people liked it.
Wont write much, other ppl did here for Hours and nearly everything I dont like was adressed already.
I am still in Chapter 1, fighting masses of kobolds now to get near Tartuto, but already did ragequit more often then in 1 k hours of BG.
The game has still bugs, some real weird mechanics (can somebody tell me how my characters can consume kIlos of food per day? Besides! a cooked meal which ingredients I also have to carry with me) and mostly dull fights.
Enemies are wether much weaker then you or much stronger and fights depend much more on luck then they ever did in BG. So save Spam, (really, do it, game often confronts you with enemies you cant escape and also you cant beat, sometimes game even overwrites the autosave just before those fights, but not before starting the fight, but exactly after, so no way to avoid the fight and no way back also, very clever use of an autosave function!) try again if you fail and get a complete diffrent outcome without doing anything diffrent. Ok, maybe some ppl like that, I do not. BG did honour clever play, this game does not. Mages are more or less useless, cause they nearly never hit, or if, they nearly do no damage, AoE spells may exist and come later, dont know, buffs (except of the Bards songs, which mostly are useless too) are so limited that you have to carry half a ton of "rations" with you to make a rest every half hour you play, all in all ... no balancing, more work then fun.
Not a real bad game, but also not a must have.
And for sure in no case same league then BG.
awesome game, need a patch or two... understandable with such a complex and huge game. when you get the hang of the combat mechanics, its gets so much fun. the first few hours was a "little" frustrating. but I stayed on changeling mode, too old for normal/easy modes. now after 3 diffrent class/charater rolls, I now have a sorcerer that can hold his own.. so far. damn 18 hours already ...
Don't bother with the recommended or the minimum speaks. This game still has problems loading. You don't need 8 GB of memory, you need at least 32GB of fast memory, a CPU that can handle it, and NVME or PCIE SSD and patience. Now, I know what you're thinking, patience? really?
Yes, really. The game has solved a lot of it's more egregious loading problems since it came out, but people that think the game now load fine must be insane. That or repeated second long load times on an SSD is something they think is acceptable.
The game is rather well optimized, processor and graphic wise the minimum requirements, let alone the recommended ones should do, but load wise... well, modern, decent to powerful machines will still have trouble loading. And when you need to go thought six or seven consecutive load screens, well it just makes you miss the "good" 'ol days of Mass Effect elevator loading screens, at least they tried to mask them there.
I just can't wait for the day PS5 games finally start coming out and people start defending them when they have seconds long load times. What's even the point of progress if all we get is lazy devs that invalidate any and all progress that might have been made in a given field? And yes, I'm still talking about the PC version of this game, not about the PS4 one.
TL;DR only bother buying this if you don't mind wasting what will probably be hours on load screens by the time you finish it. And that's if you are using an SSD, On a HDD you'd probably spend more time on the load screen then you would in game.
You take a typical D&D type game, keep in bad mechanics like resting/sleeping to stretch it out, later throw in some sim city town building, and then later you can really clog up the game with town quests, town building, running your town, managing your town. bla
Game tries way to hard to do everything and it just turns into a jumbled confusing timed mess. It was ok, but really bogs itself down with stuff that shouldn't be in the game, like the stupid resting system and some other stuff. Not once do i remember wanting to jump into the game just to have some fun for a while, very quickly it becomes a job, not a game.
