The campaign behind the game is one of the better pen&paper adventure modules out there.
It's massive in scope and depth and, according to what I've played till now (middle of second act) quite well implemented.
Unfortunately the game is a "bugfest".
While remaining mostly playable, the amounts of bugs in quests, rule implementations, balance and general "glitchiness" is quite high.
Mind you, not especially more than most other games freshly published, the "1.0 is the new beta" seems to be an established practice today,
Still, I suggest to anybody that want to go deep into the game and not play casually to wait a bit that at least the most egregious bugs get fixed.
Been playing cRPGs for 20years now, never seen a game as bugged and badly balanced as this. Final chapter is big middlefinger to all players. Stay away unless you have masochistic urges.
I`m a huge fan of p`n`p Pathfinder. This game is as close to ity as it can be. It`s either advantage and disatvantage. Everything in a game is decided by a dice roll. And you party can kill a powerfull monster with roll of 20, and can be wiped out with a wolf with series of bad rolls. The game has some UI bugs but now (1.0.8) they mostly fixed. I`m allready at lvl 7 and I`m enjoying the game so far. It`s as good in exploring and adventures as BG1 is, yet with some unique features, from camping to managing a kingdom. So despite some issues - I can strictly reccomend this game to any hardcore RPG fan.
I would rate this 2.5 stars if i could. the story and concept are great. a mix of rpg and city building, nice! However, there NEEDS to be an IN-DEPTH TUTORIAL. Figuring out how to upgrade your city shouldn't be a slog through online forums, period. There are apparently bugs as well, might want to wait on patches. I haven't gotten far past the first chapter so i havent run into much.Turorials and hints are desparately needed, i.e: i had to go back hours of playtime after realizing i had no advisors to send on a one day quest (to tell people of the ancient curse). I had defeated the enemy you needed to,but i had sent advisors on long missions and all i needed was one stupid day. If they had told me i might want to save such and such advisor(s) for this i wouldn't have suffered kingdom-crippling setbacks. I recommend waiting until little issues like this and most of the bugs are worked out. The devs are responsive, though, I'll give them that.
Excellent game in the style of baldar's gate. Rules are more advanced than most of this style of game so suits higher end RPGers than those wanting a hack'n'slash. Storyline and mix of dungeon crawler with city builder really worked for me and I cared about all elements of the game. The alignment system was far better than normal and more flexible for non-LG builds. I would certainly recommend this game and having finished both Bard's Tale 4 and this game in the past month, this one is far superior!
