Most beautiful game ever

Ori is the most beautiful game I've ever played. I am no casual gamer, but I don't like playing action platformers. But this game is just too well done: Great character designs (especially Ori and Naru), interesting skills (not only visually but also concerning gameplay!). Great atmosphere, great soundtrack. The lighting looks like a dream. The story is okay (I haven't played the complete game yet, so I don't really want to judge that now). I also didn't have any technical problems. I'm amazed what is possible with this game engine (Unity). What I don't like about it at all is the difficulty. I already play on "easy" and switched from the original to the definite edition now, so I can use the teleport etc. But it isn't enough in certain levels (the tree...). A game like this doesn't need to be that frustrating in the easiest game mode. But if you resistent enough against frustration, you really should give it a try. It seems to be a bit easier when you have a controller you're adjusted to.

Impossible to rebind keys

I'd like to give you an honest review of the game, but I can't because I literally cannot play it. It has no in-game control rebind option. It has a text file that can supposedly allow you to rebind keys by manually editing the file; however, it simply does not work. After hours of editing, deleting, recreating the file, and opening and closing the game to the point where I'm starting to hate the look of it, I still have the default controls in game. I've read people on forums say they're also struggling to get the key rebinds to work, while others have been successful with it. So, it's a gamble. If you habitually rebind keys in games, whether because of disability, left-handedness, or any other reasons, I would advise against buying this game, because there's a pretty good chance you won't be able to play it.

GREAT game. 1 Complaint and Fix.

The artwork could make Miyazaki shed a tear. Seriously, the game is breathtaking. The music... wow... I can leave that on and never get bored of it. I listed my one complaint at the bottom. The game play? This is what games should be like, its Nintendo Hard, as per the Trope, this game will kill you with breathtakingly depicted imaginative and countless time honored ways. Crushing pillars? Check. Death Traps like boulders and grinders? Check. Miss that "outrun the time bomb while climbing out of Zebes?" Its here, in several lovely flavors. Did you like the floor and air dash of Mega Man X? Well, Ori has it all. Still remember that Flame Stag level From Mega Man X? We've got a volcano here too. Ori is a tiny kitsune type critter with an impressive array of athletic abilities, coupled with his companion's ability to blast things to kibbles. Teamwork is fun. To the reviewer who complained about spikes in difficulty, this is actually a book from old school designers who wrote the book on memorable games. The player's psyche needs a bit of release in between those high difficulty spikes, which is why you are given those not so tough areas to relax and cruise. Those games we play on the NES or SNES again, and ask ourselves "why don't they remake this with better graphics and leave everything else alone?" Well, our friends here have done just that!! Did you like games with levels which force you to use everything you learned? Yeah... welcome home. ********************************** COMPLAINT ******************************** In fact, MY only complaint is this: FIXED CONTROLS!!!!!!! Turns out the DEVS did give us this: %localappdata%/Ori and the Blind Forest DE/KeyRebindings.txt Edit that file to remap your bindings. You have to start the game once without it and then they are generated. Once you edit your controls, make sure you also set the [Activate] variable at the top from False to True or the changes won't take effect. Hope that helps.

One of the greats

One of my favourite platformers. The art is beautiful, the story not overwhelming but it's enough to get you curious, and the gameplay is extremely fun. Better with an xbox controller. Highly recommended if you like this sort of stuff.

Hardcore Game

I was not expecting the game to be that challenging. Judging by it's aesthetic I had formulated the opinion that this game would be something like Never Alone in regards to it's difficulty level and depth. I guess I also ignored every single review of the game that mentioned it's actually a metroid-vania game. The game is as beautiful as it looks on all the promotional materials. Movement is slick and satisfying. Opponent variety is a bit lacking though. The only reason I am giving the game 4 instead of 5 stars is the fact that there are difficulty spikes, one very famous such spike is the escape from Ginso tree. Coincidently, the area right after that had me stuck for unnaturally long time because I had to use a mechanic from the very beginning of the game that I though I would not use again, so I had forgotten it. So it's a strong recommend but keep in mind it's not a piece of cake.
