The Malus are a product of their planet’s harsh environment. Scarce water, extremely high temperatures, and a volatile climate forged a stout and rigidly disciplined culture based on strength and triumph over adversity. They have come to see themselves as the rightful rulers of the cosmos. The Alyssians are an independent, self-sufficient and fatalistic race, who forsook their individualism for the greater good. They are democratic and egalitarian. However, in an age of scientific progress, those who excel in the military sciences are esteemed above all. Both races will soon discover they are not alone...
O.R.B., the acronym for Off-World Resource Base, is a real-time strategy game that involves the desperate struggle between the forces of two planets for control of the Aldus solar system. You command the military forces of both the Malus and the Alyssians - two radically different races with fundamentally different cultures and motives. Extract resources from asteroid belts throughout several systems to expand and build upon your fleet. Research new technologies to upgrade the capabilities of your existing ships and test your enemies by building new prototypes. Capture enemy ships and steal their technology to open up new research branches.
Multiplayer notice: The game's official multiplayer servers have been taken offline and the only multiplayer options available are LAN or Direct IP.

Not great but not bad
This was one of my first games I could play with a video card. Back when I was little, like around 8, I always trended towards these space games. I got lost watching the scenery. Anyway back to now, this game is still alright. I got the CD still and the latest patch on a HDD but for ease of storage I am putting this on my wishlist and will likely buy from GOG. The game is better than other attempts at Homeworld's throne, and it also has a story I found interesting enough. Can't go wrong for $6, it could keep you busy for the better part of a day or two and that's a bargain.

Great Sci-Fi Cinema
I like the atmosphere in ORB. To me the ships move like real space ships. The game is just a little bit too small. The resources will be depleated by the time you research the really cool ship designs. I play a game every so ofton all the same. I don't take it too seriously, just kick back and enjoy the show.

worth the $6 on GOG
not the best to be sure, and it can get fairly hard, as well as generic, but the story is good, if unoriginal. never played homeworld so I can't compare this to that.

Nostalgic
This is one of my first games that introduced me to PC games around 16 years ago. This game is a basic RTS and is fun to play provided it is a very old game given. I was happy to see it on GOG as I've thought about this game from time to time over the years and finally found it here on GOG which I'm very pleased to see. I'm glad to be able to play it again after all these years.
