No Man's Sky offeres a outstanding Exploration! You can visit every place on every planet in every system. The game is a big sandbox game, where you can basically do whatever you want. You can play this game very peaceful as a trader, or a explorer, or you can fight against pirates, drones and predators. Meanwhile, there are also random generated horror-dungeons in this game, that offer a unique experience. If you don't like that much freedom, that's okay! No Man's Sky offers a really awesome story, that seems to be very confusing at first, but if you complete the main storyline, everything will make sense. And you get answers to every question that comes up in the game while playing the storyline. What about farming you may ask? Well you can farm alot. But you don't need to. If you just want some action and don't gather ressources all the time, you can play as a Drone-Hunter-Trader. Then you can buy all the ressources you need on the space stations, get headhunter missions and earn more money. And what about long term motivation? Well you can upgrade your ship(s), your inventory, your weapon(s), build a bigger or multiple bases and manage a huge freighter and your own fleet. Speaking about your own fleet: You can send those to different missions so that they gather ressources for you and they always come back with a random generated story, of what they experienced. Last thing that i want to mention is about the DRM state of the game. The truth is: This game is DRM free. BUT: There is one sidequest (not mainquest!) that you can't play without either playing online (at least once with each savegame) or using a mod / following a tutorial. In 2016, I made a personal vow that I would not buy the bug-laden, feature - devoid mess that was No Man's Sky. It promised too much for an indie studio to deliver, it's development and PR was opaque (to be polite) and it's MSRP was laughable, considering EA and Activison were having a hard time trying to convince players to drop the same amount on games that, while arguably as barren as NMS 1.0 were at least playable. Fast forward 3 years, a number of free updates and an excellent leave-it-on-the-table PR revamp I finally decided to give this game a try. While I cannot speak to how the game perfomed before 2019 I can say that in it's current state it more or less delivers what it promised. The controls are fairly smooth though it is clear that they were designed around a controller rather than a mouse / keyboard or HOTAS setup. The shooting, while not great, is at least passable - a feat for a new company having to contend with seasoned FPS / TPS developers. NMS, unlike other games that attempt to try to play in both first- and third-person persepctives, actually animates the character models correctly in each. (*cough* *cough* fallout *cough*) The game, otherwise, plays in a similar style to many other exploration / trading games; every system contains a space station where you can trade weapons, ships, materials and learn each species' respective languages - making trade easier and opening missions for the player. The only nitpick that I cannot forgive (besides the price - see below) is the inventory / crafting system. Hello Games created an intricate and fairly complex crafting / inventory system but allotted too few slots to allow for proper experimentation until the player is DEEEEEEP into the game or strikes it lucky and finds some exosuit upgrades. In short, I'm glad I waited and cannot recommend this game enough - when it's on sale. Asking a AAA price for an indie game that needed three years extra bake time is asking too much.

I recently got No Man's Sky at a 50% savings and it is money well spent. At first I wasn't sure what to expect from reading so many negative reviews, but with the new updates the game has so far played flawlessly for me. I am so hooked on this game now. It is amazing to be able to have an entire universe at your fingertips to explore and there is so much to see and do in the game. I have even made a few new friends in the game. I highly recommend this game to anyone. I recommend playing it on a gaming computer. I play it on an OMEN laptop with a Core i7 processor and a GEFORCEGTX graphics card.

I purchased this game on release. I was beyond disappointed. Over the years however, the devs showed that they had not given up on the game. Nope. It was admittedly one of the longest Early Access situations. Now though, in 2020, I rediscovered the game and it's actually what the devs promied early on. It's actually enjoyable. I would still suggest purchasing the game on sale though. It is a 3 year old game mind you. If you enjoyed Subnautica and its ilk of games, No Man's Sky can surprisingly provide a deeper experience. Take into consideration the wide range of ships and bases that can be built. Also need to mention the fact that multiplayer has finally been implemented - something Subnautica is still begging for!

I was one who enjoyed the game when it first came out. I guess I took all the hype for being "impossible" and held more modest expectations. I played for 50 hours, enjoyed the pretty procedural vistas, and saw most of what No Man's Sky had to offer, and I was done (having found a second galaxy after getting to the center of the galaxy "the hard way"). However, the constant influx of free upgrades has now transformed it into something almost unrecognizable from that 2016 release. It has not only met the expectations of the "impossible" hype, but has blown way past it. At this point (in 2024), we're basically playing "No Man's Sky 4," all for free. It has almost everything you could want in a giant, sprawling, (multi-)galaxy-spanning survival / adventure / exploration game. Multiplayer. Base-building. Fleet-building. Exploration. Trading. Lore. A deep tech / crafting tree. Ship customization. Salvage. Combat. Community events / storylines. Pirates. Settlements. Ground (and undersea) Vehicles. Mechas. Giant worms(!). Pets (and creature breeding). Greatly expanded quests / missions. A greatly expanded palette of what a planet can be, including some rare, truly bizarre planet types. And constant modernization to improve the graphics, UI, and to expand to new platforms. As a VR fan, I'm really pleased with the VR support that was added a few years ago, too! Bottom line... if you heard about the game but ignored it after hearing the initial 'letdown' - you owe it to yourself to give it another look. Eight years in, it has been repeatedly modernized, and keeps hitting new highs in concurrent players. I think it's safe to call it a classic now.
