The game has potential and still shortcomings in 2023: 1. You need to Google a lot as the game doesn't explain it. Especially with refining recipes. 2. It's very light on story. You need hours to understand there is a story. 3. Starting out you have no clue what the main storyline is. Due to the free updates, there are multiple. 4. It's repetitive and might get boring: Scanning: You will scan the same plant, rock, or animal over and over again as they are all the same. Mining: Grinding certain elements takes time (e.g. platin). Planet exploration: placing the signal amplifier & flying to the next waypoint & repeating this process Planets: There are just a few styles. They all lock and feel the same. NPC interactions: There are a few "styles"/dialogs but again they are all the same. Puzzle: Encountered 3 different puzzles. Again very repetitive. 5. It's a controller optimized. Keyboard controls feel like an afterthought as every UI element screams console. 6. Default graphic setting is max. motion blur!

This game had a troubled birth, but it has been a very long time since the ambitious expectations the demo concept raised were for the most part exceeded. There is no reason to give such a harsh treatment to a game so incredibly rich and versatile. True it is not flawless, there are some limitations to what it can generate but there is no doubt that this is a game to go down in the history books, not because of the difficulties it overcame but because of the success it reached as a creative vision. You are stranded, in a remote part of the universe. Hard to tell where exactly but you do find your damaged ship soon and do your best to repair with what you can find and build. And set for the limitless horizon... That is the premise, a lost in space of sorts that does a darn solid effort to show just how immense space really is. And that is why this game deserves those 5 stars, it actually expands on what was humanly possible to represent, all wrapped in a beautiful highly interactive package. What was once a series of setbacks gave rise to a richness unparalleled and to (what matters) a solid game of exploration. Also I have it on Steam not GOG. I may save up a little and buy again just to pay the devs their much deserved credit!

I bought this game just around the time the Endurance update dropped. I play on PC and due to my personal hardware and OS choices I cannot play online at all as GOG Galaxy requires a newer version of M$ Window$. That being said the game runs mostly fine for me at an average of ~40fps. Some of the weather events are a bit laggy but playable. I'm really enjoying this game. The immersion is amazing. Looking out the freighter window and seeing the frigates not on missions and then being able to get in my starship and fly to those frigates; brilliant! It's a bit buggy but nothing game breaking. The most annoying bug so far is that the refiners will eat anything left in them if you leave their area. The sequence of the main story needs to be reworked to better incorporate all of the additional content but, again, its not a big deal. For those wondering what is affected if you never go online, here are the things that I have found don't work so far: 1. Multiplayer features (obviously) 2. Only limited Nexus missions, no access to the weekly Quicksilver mission 2a. which, in turn, means no Living Ship egg for you 3. Quicksilver merchant only offers a limited set of the items they normally would 4. Helios and Ares in the Anomaly won't speak to you unless you are connected to the servers. 4a. this means that Helios won't give you your free, weekly emergency broadcast receiver (EBR) 5. The EBR price at the Scrap Dealer doesn't reset. Each time you buy the price increments but doesn't reset daily 6. No official access to Expeditions There are unofficial means to get around most of these, I'll leave that to your Google-fu. I used the refiner duplication glitch on the EBRs for example.

...so before the Worlds update, I was able to play NMS with almost everything set at enhanced (probably could have even gone higher on some settings) and everything was smooth - FPS good to go. Now, I have to set everything to standard or the game chugs horribly (interestingly, only when I look up at anything). Kind of defeats the idea of all the shiny new graphics. I'm not complaining - progress is great, but the minimum specs on this page are now truly outdated and should be corrected for new people buying this game. My system is not new, but it does have a liquid cooled i7 at 3.7Ghz, 32GB RAM, and an AMD RX470 with 4GB of VRAM. Maybe in 2016 this game would run on an i3 with 8GB of RAM, but I can say with some certainty, that is not the case any longer. I think this information needs to be updated - it probably should have been years ago. Other than that - buy this game - I've been playing since 2017, I have thousands of hours in, the worldwide community is amazing - possibly the most generous players out there, not just with their time to assist, but with resources. The only other request I would have is what others have asked - allow users to amend their reviews now that Hello Games has truly raised the bar in the industry for their legendary support of this incredible simulation. This game would have a 5 star rating if this happened.

When this game first came out a whole year ago, it was an overprices mess. I'll admit now it was a pile of ****. Now however things are on the up; Hello games have proven that they really didn't just want a cashgrab by doing these large game changing updates. It would of been so easy to sweap it under the rug and run off with the money, that what many companies would of done. So thanks for not doing that Hello Games. Now onto the atual review. Quite a few Large features and many more smaller ones have been added over the year and i have to admit i'm impressed. While the main gameplay is fairly same old as before: Go to planet, get stuff, use stuff to let you get more stuff. It feels alot more fleshed out and less time consuming now. This is mostly to blame by the fact that there are now land vehicles wich makes getting around alot easier and faster. It is also complmented by the base building that was added into the game, giving you a place to store all of the exess junk you collect. Though there is little other insentive to do this or even build a large base as you could quite easily go though the game just selling any excess stuff just like before the update, but I feel with some more updates and maybe a few good mods giving an insentive to build a base it could be a real strong point for the game. Lastly the part the made everyone mad a year ago, Multiplayer. It's here now if you could call it that. In the most recent update it was added in a very very small capacity you can see other players in the form of an orb. So far that's it, but it proves it's in and working. Maybe in the next update you'll be able to trade things/ work together even raid each other bases Rust or ARK style. But at least its in and it's a start. Overall though I still wouln't pay £40 ($60) for it at least not in it's current state. Maybe another year on it will be worth that price maybe not. But if you see it on Sale for £15 - £20 ($20-$25) I'd say go for it.
