It was just overhyped
what we have here is a perfect example of a game that overpromised and didn't come through with its promise... but its stll a playable game after you look past everything that isn't there

future thoughts
i think this game shows a lot of potential. i haven't actually played it yet, but i think if you could become the founder of an entire colony, then become sheriff or mayor, then eventually hire hunting teams to exterminate tagged predators it should be a lot of fun.

Grind for resources.
I want to like it, i really really do, However i just cant, a year after this game was released i decided to give it a go, but I just cant go any further. When I started my game i was tasked with locating my ship, it was so far away that i kept dying of cold, i i looked for buildings while slooooowly advancing towards my ship, after a LOT of deaths i finally reached my ship, ofcourse i do not have all the minerals to repair my ship, so a few more 100 deaths later i was able to gather all the resources needed to repar my ship, then they needed to recharge the now repaired parts, this needs more resources, So out again to yet again search for resources now depleeted around my crashed ship, The more i die the less life support i have when i start over (Life support determens how far you can walk, it depletes faster when you run or jetpack, and when its gone you loose life) after a while i had 0 life support left, meaning if i move for less then 1 minute i would die, Somehow i managed to get the resources to get into space, i flew around and found a planet that would not kill of with cold, i landed somewhere to investigate this planet, it was very barren, empty, dead... i went back into my ship to find a new spot or a new planet, Lo and behold, i had to recharge it again, after thinking i had to do EVERYTHING again from scratch i pressed ctrl+F4, no more chances for this game. As i said, i want to like it, its pretty... But i just cant. Hello games, its time for me to say goodbye.

Released before it was ready
In its current state, I cannot recommend No Man Sky Tecnical aspects: Visuals: Sub par at best: - Even at max settings the geometry looks clunky, the AA is non existent (possible bug), and the are constant frame drops and hangs. The resolution does not seem to be running correctly at all. - It also seems to be locked at 720p at most while running on a 1080p screen with the correct 1920x1080 resolution clearly selected in the options menu. The overall look does not look half as crisp as the gog store screenshots. Controls: Rushed console port: -Simple commands that would require a simple mouse click actually require a long press instead. This includes option screen menus. -With each screen change in the game menus, the cursor snaps to the center of the screen for no logic reason. -Ship controls are clunky and non responsive in atmospheric flight. The player is constantly fighting for control. Identical mouse movements perform do not result in the expected maneuvers even after some practice time. Erratic ship behavior happens often. Flying close to planet surfaces is almost impossible because the system is constantly fighting the player input. Design aspects: - The inventory is light years away from what is needed for an enjoyable experience. The available slots are one tenth of what any new player would deem appropriate for any kind of modern exploration/crafting game. It means that after a couple hours of gameplay, there's no point in gathering new materials for later. The game becomes as linear as a corridor shooter because there's no space in the inventory for anything else other than the materials required for the current "main quest" objective. The current state of the game does not let me evaluate the rest of the features Hello Games claims the game have. The laughable inventory system and the technical issues prevent me from progressing any further. In its current state, NMS is worth 5 to 10 EUR at most. Definitely not the full price tag of 59.99.
