Myst Masterpiece Edition

Windows 7 user here. Tried initially to pirate this game. Spent hours of fiddling with configurations and looking up fixes trying to get the damn pirated version to work. I thought I'd try the GOG version because I heard they had pre-configured to work with win7. To my pleasant surprise, entire game works "out of the box". No fussing necessary. Extremely impressed with GOG's dedication to making sure their games work, even the old cheap-o titles This is the version Windows 7 users should get.

I was hesitant as so many reviewers said it wouldn't run on a Windows 7 64 bit but so far so good! I installed it with no issues, and it is running beautifully. It was probably updated and improved since the reviews . I never played it before and so far, it is amazing....

I'm playing this game on a fairly modern windows 10 computer and it works OK. The only major issue is some (probably all) of the in-game cut scenes don't load. The scenes in books showing world previews, etc work just fine. I didn't realize they didn't work till I watched an old review. I'm not sure if it breaks the game not having them, but so far I've been able to get quite far in the game without them and not even knowing till I watched an old video review of the game. Pretty good adventure game. Looks really dated now, but plays well and the music score feels timeless. If you've never played the original myst then I'd highly recommend it has all the core values of the other games. Interesting world, challenging puzzles, a mystery to be solved and being thrown into the world with no real clue of what to do or where to go. If this is your first time playing myst then prepare for a frustrating challenge as you blindly wonder around the world initially just pressing things at random hoping that anything will do something with almost no idea of what your doing or why your are doing it, but over time it all begins to make sense and you'll find purpose, and a rewarding sense of achievement.

Great game. I never played it before, and just downloaded to try out because of a sale GOG had. I could hardly put the game down, and just finished playing it all the way through. Deep story, clever puzzles, timeless graphics. 4 starts only because of crash issues with my win xp sp2 system - save often to avoid frustration.

Myst is one of the icons of the gaming industry. It was a revolutionary game in it's day, one that is studied in video games design courses around the world for it's impact on the media. Unfortunately, it hasn't aged very well. This game simply isn't stable any more, and by being chained to Quicktime as it's main graphics engine, it is being dragged down as the format slowly makes it's way into oblivion. For all the immersion this game provided, the stability issues will drag you right back out of it, making this more of a chore than an enjoyable experience. Plus, there is absolutely no replay value - maybe if you can let it sit on a shelf and forget about it for a few years and then see if you can still solve it again, you might get some repeat satisfaction, but otherwise this is more for being able to say you own Myst than you actually play Myst.
