Myst Masterpiece Edition

...but I cannot play on Windows 8! It really stinks, but hey, I got realMYST to work! So I suppose I still get to play the game, in a way. (There's a post in the GOG Myst forum asking for help in this issue. If you can help, post there!)

My Mac Performa 630CD in late 1994 with 4 MB of RAM and a 33mhz processor, and 250MB of hard drive space, played this game into the wee hours of the morning. I still have my official Myst Journal that came with the game, with hand-written diagrams and notes, from '94. Myst wasn't even so much about gaming, it was a revolutionary way of interacting with a computer, a mouse-driven GUI in a high resolution environment. Nothing else did this back then. It was amazing then, but obviously silly to think about now. The atmospheric sound, animations, art, and story still hold-up today, people should really respect Myst, even if they wouldn't enjoy it now.

Loved it as a kid. Still love it as an adult. Kept me entertained for hours. FYI on Win 7 pro 64. Unclick the MP3 coding box when installing quicktime lite. No need for compatibility. I spend hours looking for solution and this was the ONLY thing that worked for me.

I was able to install and run this game without issues - it runs well and is way better than the old days of having to CD swap to load different areas. You have to play this game slowly and carefully, probably with a pen and paper beside your PC. You have to learn to trust the game - nothing in it is accidental. This precice puzzle solving and quiet thinking leads to a large sense of achievement at solving the puzzles. There is a story but the game is about the puzzles. If this appeals to you then it's a classic that's worth your time, if not then please avoid - you won't come around to it if you don't think it's your thing after the 1st hour of playtime.

When i was kid, i read about games from Myst series in game magazines and i loved what i saw on screenshots. This interesting, fantastic worlds full of strange mechanisms catched my attention. But i never played any Myst. Now i tried first of series and it was pleasent experience. Maybe game isn't as beautiful as later instalments, but despite this it have some interesting places and plot. Still this old prerendered graphics have some charm. And this climate of mystery and loneliness in strange worlds highlighted by sounds. It was great, despite i had to use walkhtrough to complete the game. I like plots and worlds in adventure games, but unfortunately i'm rather bad in solving puzzles. But at last i played Myst game and i'm happy with this. And there are few more games to try.
