Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden Demo
Though don't get fooled by the "RPG" and "Turn-based" tags. Not that they're wrong, but this is a stealth game first and foremost, with the other aspects being secondary. With that in mind, I fully recommend this game for fans of stealth and/or turn-based games alike, it delivers on both ends quite well.
Even on the easiest difficulty it does not offer an enjoyable experience. One does not get any guidelines on what to do and how to do. Go there, find out what - you get there, find out all loot, but nothing happens, except if you engage an overpowered enemy party, in which case you get wiped out. Or, you got leveled up - great, but there is no clue on the UI how to get the benefits. Similarly, you have some earned 'points' on the skill upgrade page, but it says you are not yet able to use them.
Visuals are very nice. I was quite suprised with the graphics.
The camera is fixed and at a very annoying angle. You can't quite see far a head (obviously on purpose as each zone is quite small). It gives this weird not quite top down and not over the shoulder view that I hated.
Difficulty level is super bunk. Easy/Normal is almost too simple and then the Hard difficulty is just stupid. There is little opportunity to heal as med kits are scarce so the higher diffuclty is tedious.
Combat balance is totally off. You'll face upto 8 enemies at once early on. Taking into account the lack of medkits/ways to heal, if you don't get the luck of the draw on your side at the start of combat (enemy movement, accuracy/hits) it becomes pointless and necessary to reload a saved game. There is no incentive to battle through an encounter if in the end you come out worse (using said limited medkits).
This game had a lot of promise but they simply made a lot of poor design decisions IMO. A tactical turnbased combat system should react and feel like there are options for the player. This game simply does not have that.
Superb stealth action. A host of ways to fight tactically. I found the final battle too hard but others out there will be a better player than me. I loved the way that I could fall back and funnel the attackers into a carefully preplanned kill zone.
