Titan of its Time

Medal of Honor: Allied Assault is truly one of the greats. That is not superfluity. This review is my homage to a piece of art that has had a major influence on my life. Playing this game during the formative years of my youth ignited within me a fascination for studying the history of World War II. If you did not play it "back in the day", you'll need to lower your expectations a bit. The graphics and mechanics are both outdated: no aim-down-sights, for instance. Once you are able to look past the "flaws" of an 18-year-old game, the brilliance that practically created a genre will become obvious. This game is a large slice of glorious nostalgia cake. Giacchino's soundtrack in the main menu room - not to mention throughout the game - is worth the price all by itself. In fact, the audio engineering in general is fantastic. There are soundbites that a friend and I still regularly use: "he's taking too long!" Then there are the memorable campaign moments...too many to list. The classic Omaha Beach landing has been mentioned by other reviewers, so instead I'll tell you my personal favorite: the undercover mission in the submarine pens of Norway ("papiere, bitte!"). Fun little hidden gem: in the room with 3 Germans playing cards at a table, look out the large windows to see two mechanics down below. Press the "use" key while your reticle is on them and watch what happens. ;) The online multiplayer community is still very active and fairly large. You can view the server list by patching with x-null's browser fix. As for my friends and I, we still host regular LAN parties that always include a few rounds of MOHAA on Stalingrad. Thanks for the memories, old friend.

Great WW2 shooter

This game was released shortly after Saving Private Ryan and it seems to try to follow along with the movie in many aspects. It did a great job of that and made a very immersive game. The only complaint I have with it is that the missions are too stuck into a path. I know this is how many shooters are and especially back in this time, but a little more freedom to find your way to objectives would've made it much more fun. The mutliplayer was fantastic and if you can't still find a server there are many bots and mods available for it. I highly recommend.

You can't beat a classic

MOH is truly a classic of the genre. Even with an older game of this type, as long as you spruce the graphics up a bit (Virtual Super Resolution) and the sound (EAX restoration) then the classic atmosphere is still there. Prepare to be extremely immersed in snowy forests or NAZI bunkers. Every corner becomes a death defying dance of grenades bouncing off walls and encounters. It's a seriously good sign for me when I'm laughing when I die, lol. Then I know I was fighting well and the enemy got me fair and square. Highly recommended. As to the difficulty here. It's just too easy in modern games that have so many customisation options (for example Ghost Recon Wildlands, Breakpoint) to make "just hard enough" for one's own style of game play. But its just not challenging enough. Basically the game allows you to break the rules, whereas MOH has a set deck of rules. Other games have cover mechanics, regen health - bullet sponges. MOHAA gives a level playing field apart from the easy/normal/hard difficulty. Developers today are so afraid of making the game "too hard" for players that they try and please everyone. They are in danger of taking away part of the fun factor which is the challenge. Some other games that don't seem to suffer from this are one's like AC Origins. It's new combat system is challenging. However in modern games you can always dial the difficulty up and down at will leading to not being able to live with the consequences of one's decisions. Can you image if the particpants were allowed to do that in the middle of an olympic contest ? So MOH is a true testament to the generation who fought WW2. Now we can sit back and say "we won that one". But then WINNING WASN'T EASY WHEN YOU WERE IN THE THICK OF IT !

这似乎是个合集，是三款不属于现在这个时代的伟大作品。荣誉勋章整个系列现在都能在烂橘子找到，但是常年不打折。gog可能是能用正常价格购入这些残余作品的最后途经

The definitive world war 2 FPS

One of those games that ages like a pharaoh's tomb. On the surface it might look really old and dusty, but on the inside its still solid gold treasure. This game I think strikes that sweet spot of games becoming more cinematic where even though it tries to feel like Saving Private Ryan, its still a game first and it gives the player enough of a challenge with enough agency to tackle it in more than one way whether its stealth or guns blazing Rambo style. The music and the atmosphere are still great, and the vairiety in the missions keep the campaign feeling fresh at all times, its one of those games where the second I finish a mission I'm ready to jump right into the next one. The D-day mission is still one of the best moments in gaming imo, it manages to be both fun gameplay wise while capturing the horrofic feeling that the brave soldiers who fought and died on that beach went through.
