Beyond its time

Truly a piece of gaming art that manages to add fast action, puzzles and a dark sense of humor into a wonderful 3rd person action game. First time i played this was back at release when i was still a kid and even then i realized how ahead of other games it were. This game have insane render distances compared to other games of the time and even managed to "fake" mirror like surfaces ( fake in the term that the player and the enemies and items dont reflect ) The bosses is varied, the levels are exotic, the story..... errr... you are going to save the world by killing aliens. However, as for players that never played games before the "standard" settings for movement might have a slight problem getting used to the controls and the camera might be a little dodgy in a flew places. All in all, it is a short but quite interesting and entertaining game, Shiny did do their best in making this a epic game beyond its time and gave us something else.

Have you ever heard of MDK?

...for me the answer would be NO. I was too young when the game was released and so I passed it and lived over a decade whiteout hearing anything about it. With the summer "Staycation" promo from gog 2011 I took the risk of 3$ and bought the game. After I fixed the texture bug with the help of the AWESOME gog.com community I was ready to enjoy the game and what a game it is! After all this years I found in MDK the game of my dreams: pure third person action. If you ask me anybody who likes jumping and shooting at the same time should buy this game it is that good. Thank you gog for this mind blowing experience ;)

Kind of perfect!

One of the best from the era. I remember especially the beautiful textures and environments and the disappointment that the real game didn't look at all as good as the CG demo mpeg file that was up on the site and took forever to download back in the 28.8 baud days. But this was as artistic as Shiny Entertainment ever got, and has nice Tommy Tallarico orchestrated music, very smooth (if jumpy) controls (you get used to them). Still playable today - but be warned it's a bit short. One wishes that they had made the sequel as Bioware did not really seem to get Shiny's style. Nick Bruty and Bob Stevenson, Tim Williams, Shawn Nelson and Andy Astor should be commended for the artwork and design in this game. Dave Perry should be commended for seeing that the game was fun throughout. It feels like it moves at almost too rapid of a pace and I always wished it had been longer. You can run fast in it and it was one of the first games to introduce the "headshot" ability (sniping off heads) -- your helmet itself -- your whole head -- is your sniping weapon. The game mixes bizarre ideas with comedy, but it dark throughout.

one of the best games ever made

I remember a friend telling me : " dude, you should try this one out, this game has awesome moments and you will love it, I will bring this game tomorrow to you".... The other day, he told me that had lost one of the cd's of phantasmagoria, but instead he brought me a game with some strange name, MDK... And then in one weekend, the game was finished, never had done that before.... the game was that amazing for me. From the action, to design, everything was enough and more to hook me up in this game. When I though that had see everything, boom, something more. Bought this game again , and now, the second one with it..... I'll be playing those ones with tears in my eyes. You can't go wrong with this title.

Great short experience

MDK is one of those game you will never forget. Very interesting sense of humor, very interesting artistic design along with funny backstory (reading manual is definitely worth it!). It's lighthearted third person shooter, combined with platforming and puzzle solving. Good thing it's more fun than frustrating (good for person that is not good at this like me anyway). Art, level design, sound, one of the best I know. The only thing I experienced were some graphical glitches, but game was still playable no problem.
