I loved this game so much that I was flipping over backwards when I found the disks in my parents basement while remodling... all 7 or 8 of them. Then I remembered none of my current computers have a 3 1/2 floppy drive. A quick google and tada! Anyway, My son has grown up on overly flashy, low content games, and he seems to prefer the simpler old fashioned ones. I'm seriously looking forward to forcing him er... having him try some old school awesomeness. Now if I could just find Duengones of Kyrinn
Yes... unofficial patch is here.
This game is a masterpiece, even today. Forget the graphics...just enjoy History

Awesome Civilitation-like, turn-based strategy game! As you'd expect from the genre, it combines land control, city building, economy management and militar planning. Master of Magic adds, precisely, magic into that mix, in the form of many varied spells under the different schools of magic that each wizard can dominate. The spells range from very specific effects to worldwide enchantments and even summoned units to support your army. Each of those, properly used, are potential game changers. Powerful artifacts and heroes will make apperance too, some of the later also able to cast spells right on the battlefield.
There's a lot of different races to choose from, every one of them unique and interesting. You can also pursue victory aggressively in the way of conquest, or try a more defensive approach and survive long enough to research and cast the feared "Spell of Mastery" - Beware ! Doing so means depriving the use of magic to the other wizards, which will greatly enrage and rally all of them against you. While this means instant victory, be sure to have enough forces to resist their attack before you start its long casting process.
When I first joined GOG almost 2 years ago, this was the game I requested above all else. This game alone got me through my degree (or should that be almost cost me my degree?)
Although the graphics are dated now, the game play is as good as ever, and exploring new ways to win is just as challenging. But most of all, this game is the classic time thief.
Enjoy
I absolutely loved Civilization and it killed as many of my hours as any other games.
So when Simtex created a game that married Civilization with magical creates, spells and a fantasy setting... I knew my social life was over.
The game is almost flawless and no two games are alike.
I've probably finished this game on hardest difficulty, with almost all of the default races (still don't like being Gnolls) and it's almost always a challenge. For every time that I've finished the game, I've probably died about 10 times.
Just like Civilization, the game has multiple ways of completing it. Not as much, but you can either finish the game by annihilating all your enemies, or by researching and successfully casting the Spell of Mastery.
Either way will be challenging.
Get ready for losing many precious hours of your life. Once again, I'm glad that I am a GOG member :)
Thank you GOG for wasting more of my precious life!
