I just wish it wasn't so happy to sit in another game's shadow, and made more of the few fresh mechanisms that might distinguish it and move the genre forwards. Instead, it hews so closely to a proven template that it's basically a pretty good action-adventure by default. Yet as the game clock ticked towards 20 hours and beyond, I could never quite shake the feeling that I'd still rather be failing in Dark Souls than succeeding in Lords of the Fallen.

How this 8/10 game have mixed reviews?

This game is better and easier than dark souls 1. Very fun to play if you mastered it. Most of the mechanics are similar, but this game is more accessible, has additional attacks like the ram or the gauntlet. Lots of different secrets on the map. This game has speaking characters, has some storyline, and additional missions. In Dark Souls the depths were tragic, and the boss Ornstein and Smough was unbearable for me. Bossess in Lords of the fallen are much better. Even the checkpoint system is better done here than in DS. The only thing I didn't like about this game were the large enemies with shields. There was no explanation anywhere on how to defeat them, and killing them by short sword was very long. Other weapons are too slow. Of course parry is hard for me. It is too short window for parry'ing.

Enjoyable romp through the castle

If you enjoyed DS2, this is quiet similar... DS2 is my favourite DS game and this more tactical positioning, shield, parry and dodge.... not just dodge dodge dodge make this game fun to me. I like the newer version, but this original was really good fun... and its similar to the surge and surge 2 is the updated version for positional parries and blocks / dodging. it just feels like its heavier and that large weapons do what they are meant to (physics wise!) thankyou to this bunch of devs... you really showed that you stand on your own. great start to your great collection of games.
