Taking its assets and converting them into a 3D setting with exploration, sidequests, and a story containing a concise beginning, middle, and end would go a long way towards doing justice to such a fascinating IP. As it stands, the base game might be worth a go-around if anything discussed above is appealing, but most gamers are probably better off viewing a playthrough online (specifically one that has more music!).

One of the most innovative Adventures
I am not kidding you: this is one of the most innovative adventures out there. Of course the game is creative, and sure the story is compelling - but what really makes that game stand out is the way you interact. Just for this purpose you should buy it. The setting is rather sad than uplifting and the soundtrack creates a great atmosphere. Unfortunately the graphics are not really up to date.. the last time I played it I used ScummVM, which has settings to improve the graphics somewhat. So that makes it only 4 out of 5 stars.

A game everyone should play
This isn't just nostalgia talking; LOOM is a classic in the adventure genre. The story is compelling, and it really did an incredible job of capturing my imagination when I was younger. I'd credit it for awakening a love for gaming—I remember playing it on a black-and-white Mac Plus off of actual diskettes, swapping through them as I progressed. Unless you get stuck, it's going to be a pretty fast game to play though. I remember it being around five or six hours.
