Annoying beyond measure

This game is a love letter to all the annoyances of every game out there and puts them all in one package. If you are a masochist then this is pure love. dont be fooled by all the rave reviews like me and waste your money, its so bad that even watching a streamer play this is painful and not fun. annoyances: Idiot movement of the main character, walks like he has a disability, difficult to navigate with with him swooning and swaying and loping around. Movement is guided by 'styles' of movement, in other words, you cant just walk to something to investigate, you have to choose a style to interact with everything, constantly fiddling with styles in order to just do the simplest things. No save function. Like exploring and enjoying the art style, which is the only plus in the game? tuff nookie. you will die over and over and over and over and over and have to restart. That is the whole game in a nutshell. Turn a new corner... die. start over. get to that corner and go a few feet farther.. die and start over. repeat ad nauseum. Clunky interactions with npcs and items in game. Cant fast forward thru annoying tips from every npc that they repeat over and over and over. Story is dumb and .... everyone ... annoying. worst game purchase of my life. I tried to watch a stream of this game in order to just see what everyone was glowing about and it was so darn annoying. Most people in chat were signing off and saying what an annoying game. I had to leave.

As others said, one of the true greats

Childlike without being childish, this tale of mysticism, spirituality and personal freedom in a totalitarian fable-like world has aged extremely well. Slap on a keyboard mapping software to use a controller for added comfort, and you're set for an all-ages adventure with rock-solid gaming mechanics that is as charming today as it was in the days of yore.

You read my mind...

It's like Gog.com read my mind. LBA was a fantastic game which I loved playing as a child - though I remember getting stuck fairly early on. LBA2 ate up crazy amounts of my time, but the original was just as good. So glad I found this website. The music and the action were brilliant, but the world that LBA creates is just fantastic. I can't wait to get my teeth stuck in to this one again.

Port is underwhelming.

The original game was designed to be challenging. The game is largely meant to played at a thoughtful pace. Even the most intense action sequences are better taken in slow steps. Be prepared to muddle through some trouble shooting for the too-loud music that I'm not sure I can follow. I'd still recommend this game to anyone who is interesting in alternative adventure games. The story and setting are wildly unique even if there are a few cliched floursishes. I gaurentee you that there are puzzles you'll be tasked to solve. However the game uses an auto system and will probably always kill you if you haven't figured out a smart way past guard choke points. Honestly I'd probably say you shouldn't play this game unless you want to know more of the backstory to the second game - which is admittedly more humerous and more outlandish than the first! It also has slightly more responsive control and I think has a bit more in-game tutorial segments.

Beautiful game marred by bad design

LBA was the brainchild of Alone in the dark's creator, the first truly successful survival horror game on any platform. Albeit of an entirely different nature, players of both games can easily spot the similitudes: controls, music, and art direction. I haven't finished Alone in the dark but it is a game I enjoyed despite all its flaws and shortcomings, my vision not truly colored by nostalgia since I only played the second one when originally released and 3rd briefly. But I did play and finish LBA2 in its original CD-ROM form, a much more polished version in this games' evolutionary progression, if you will. Well, somehow along this fine line of games some bad decisions were made, and it appears none hits more painfully than in this one. It's a break or (not break?) case for the player so if you're still with me I'll explain what bothers me about this game: First and most notably is the save system, which consists of copying of a game save, which is more of an archival save, since you don't continue auto saving on that copy, but on the original one you loaded. Loading a saved game will then overwrite its contents, which due to the awkward checkpoints when making a new copy it might not be where you just loaded your game, but another one! This bugged the hell of more than one gamer and it was heavily criticized when it was originally released, so it's not a case of "games weren't that good in this aspect" problem. It's also surprising how easy you get caught/killed in the beginning, and the fact that every time you lose a life you need to get out of prison again. Normally you expect a game to start easily on you but this one makes it clear from the beginning it means serious business. Tank controls weren't that bad imo, but it gets screwed when you run into things because you lose health, and since enemies do respawn I found myself playing it a lot more defensively than I did in its survival horror spiritual predecessor. Judge for yourself if I made a fair point
