Not a game for me.

I spent a hour trying to handle the first fist fight, and i couldn't The problem for me goes beyond the fist fight. I don't like 1st person games and RPGs. And Kingdom Come forces 1st person on you. You can't switch to 3rd like you would in New Vegas. 1st person it is. Only times you see your character is during dialogues. And this is another problem for me. Because this is the only moment you can have a 3rd person view of your character, and said character is dubbed... As if i was watching someone else talk. This simply prevents me from roleplaying at all because this robs me of the chance to create the character myself or identify with it. It is not about the character sheet here, but like how an actor creates a role. All i can do is try to pretend i am this guy i don't care about. That won't fly for me. This is why i like isometric RPGs like Pathfinder most. On top of that, the hour i spent trying to get the fighting system was exceptionally unfun. Partly because of this 1st person view i really can't handle. Partly because it is so unintiuitive. Partly because i hate fighting myself. And partly because i am much more interested in planning explorations or strategizing than i am in mashing buttons. There is a reason why i am not interested in having a console or playing with a controller. Those people who love 1st person views and brawls may like that. But all those things are things i genuinely abhor. This means that i couldn't even find joy in the nice realistic environements, sounds or clothes. I simply felt claustrophobic anguish for not be able to switch views, and irritation because i couldn't grasp the brawling system. And so, it took less than 2 hours for me to give up. And a month later, i uninstalled the game, probably forever. Before buying this game, you need to make sure the forced 1st person view and fighting system are down your alley. Or you won't have fun. Don't see this as a RPG. It is not meant to roleplay. Take it as an adventure instead.

This game has no redeeming qualities

Everything about this game is a nuisance or a buggy mess. Nothing about the game manages to avoid serious problems, each instance of which would be a dealbreaker. Don't waste your money like I did. I just gave up playing this. Despite all the money I spent on it, I only managed to stomach a five hours of it, at which point I literally just closed it in the middle of some dialog, dejected and miserable, without bothering to even save, and immediately unistalled it. Here's a few issues that just scratch the surface of why this game is so bad. - The combat system is a confusing mess. The game presents you with some ugly low-res UI elements that overlay themselves on top of the enemy that's "fighting" you, obsuring your immersive view of the game with a colorful mess. You select some direction by awkwardly pushing your mouse around (that's right, normally the mouse is used to look around, but right in the middle of adventuring suddenly it's used to choose things from an awkward UI instead, and during that time you can't look around anymore) - I experienced serious game-ruining bugs several times, and not just the usual 'some thread is racing and randomly you experience issues'. That can be understandable, but these were bugs that should have been caught by QA, like if you bind the same key twice, it will not let you save the binds, which is fine, but even after you fix it, it will still not let you save. Exiting the menu and going back still doesn't let you. You have to quit the game and start over. They obviously forgot to unset the flag. That's a really basic bug to find, especially for an expensive title like this. I could describe a few other equally negligent bugs, but this review will be long enough already. - You don't get to roleplay. "Your" character already has a set personality and desires. Unlike what you would expect from a competent action RPG, you don't seem to be able to carve your own path. For example, in ... oh this thing has a character limit?

Missed Opportunity

The main quest is more like a phone booth than an open world. The map, while beautiful, is not alive enough to be a sandbox. I wanted this to be a 5 star game. I spent time convinced it was a 4 star game. But after 100+ hours, I can't in good conscience rate it higher than 2 stars. You can read about the bugs anywhere. For typical RPG problems (and a little about KCD's combat problems) search for “Not 100 reasons why KCD is not perfect”. But the biggest problem is the quests. “Solve quests in multiple ways”, Don't fall for that line. The quests will railroad you down one path to allow the scripted story to advance. An excerpt of the main quest: Load screen, cut scene, load screen, somehow another cut scene, load screen, select any of 5 pointless questions to ask, load screen, go on a nigh-time raid which is doomed to failure when a guard discovers you after spawning during a cut scene, load screen. . . . How about a side quest: 3 women are trying to summon the devil by taking hallucinogenic. Follow them out to keep an eye on them. Oh, a cut scene starts where they slather you with the hallucinogenic leading to you defending the women from attacking “demons” who's corpses are labeled as bandits but you tell the priest were god-fearing woodcutters. Try that again, without intervening in the “witches sabbath”, but the cut scene launches anyway. This time I'll try stealing the potion off the women: oh, its not on their inventory. Ok, I'll try asking the women who sold them the potion to keep on eye on them—as suggested by one of the three women—but there is not option to say anything like that to the herb-woman. Guess there is only one way to solve that quest. Look, when you are off on your own riding through beautiful countryside, attacking bandit camps, fighting through ambushes, hunting, robbing, whatever, this can be a fantastic game. Until you memorize the location of every camp and random encounter. Or advance the main quest.

More like a fantasy game

The game is unfinished and honestly does not feel like it takes place in the 15th century. No crossbows in a game that supposedly takes place in 15th century Holy Roman Empire is just crazy to me. Lack of weapons that you can use, and horse combat is pathetic. I won't deny that the combat in the game is new and interesting, but I can't help but feel that this game would've been better in 3rd person and had a dark soul-esque gameplay.

Good game, But..

1: The camera movement makes me physically ill. After playing for 30 mins I have to stop, it makes me sick I want to throw up. It is sooo shaky. 2: Also, people compared the graphics to Red Dead Redemption 2. How dare you?!? This is closer to Knights of The Old Republic if anything. Graphic wise it's ok. Nothing impressive, just enough to do the job. 3: combat is not easy at first, but the more you practice the more you realize it's just not easy and you are screwed. If you see 3 opponents, run, Forest, run. 4: Using a bow will kill you before it scratches anything else. 5: You will get encumbered if you dare lift any item 6: It's easier to pickpocket people in real life in broad day light in the middle of the street than in the game. 7: To dig, you need a spade. A spade weights 4. you can carry max of 5. Now choose, a spade, or a sword? It's like having 4GB ram for a Windows laptop. yes, you can technically get away with it, but sacrifices will be made. 8: Map: this man gives quests You: hello man, can I have a quest? Man: get the f--k out of here! 9: Riding a horse is like eating a tuna sandwich on a NASA g-force training device, you will throw up. so yeah, overall not a bad game, story is ok, characters are cool, the rest is just a bit annoying
