Jazz Jackrabbit 2 Collection

I admit it might be a tiny bit of nostalgia affecting this review (hey its GOG, 99% of all reviews here are..) but this game surely deserves it as much as any. First, the music. I mean, one of the top game soundtracks of all time. Not the most memorable, it was not too popular a game anyway, but it's amazing what one composer achieved back then. Second, the split screen multiplayer was so much fun it could be illegal. Considering we had the game in a Shareware CD from some PC magazine, the fun value was infinite! As for single player, it was basically Sonic the hedgehog speed, but someone made him a bunny, gave him multiple guns, far cooler music, sprinkled more humorous menus and scenario and.. all in all was a better game in my opinion, but less people played platform games on PCs back then so the success was not comparable. All in all one of my favorite GOG releases!

Note 1#: I played the game with the JJ2+ update (Installed via GOG), which fixes lots of bugs, gives access for higher resolution, and lets you play on more multiplayer servers (if I'm not mistaken lol). Note #2: Worked really good on a Windows 10, the only major problem I had is the opening cutscene being a little glitch. I played this game a lot as a kid, but never managed to finish it, so now I did so, after 5 hours and 30 minutes of gameplay, I have managed to finish the "Main Game", which means I haven't played yet the christmas chronicles or the secret files. The game also has multiplayer mode! which I haven't tried yet so I don't know if there are players in it. You can also play CO-OP, which looks fun, I will try that later. To sum up, Jazz Jackrabbit 2 is a fun, hard and old game which aged really well, but there are some bugs here and there, like enemis are stuck in walls, or me stuck in a wall, but those are pretty rare to be honest.

GOG has done the right thing the game still rocks and i'm buying it right now, it was a great part of my childhood to play the shareware version, and now that i have conditions to legally have the full version, i'll do.

Yes, Jazz Jackrabbit 2 is practically the refined version of the first entry of the franchise, but with enough features that can stand up to it own and even to the test of time. Born as a sonic-clone, the second chapter of the adventure of the mad bunnies bring to the table a more refined camera angle, power ups,way better level design, humor straight up of the 90', an awesome soundtrack design by none other than Alexander Brandon and a graphic that still holds up today extremely well ( unlike its predecessor). On top of that, GOG pack offers... well everything : hours and hours of fun and the whole Jackrabbit, even the christmas and the shareware version. However, I did give the game a 4 star : there are some minor issues with the control ( which can be frustrating for newcomers) and some boss fight are little dull. Still, a true must-have for every retrò videogame library to have! time to squash some turtles!
