Ultherst was once a peaceful, God-fearing land until the Three Scourges of God came to pass as foretold by Saint Ezekiel, one of the twelve followers of the First Prophet. First came the famine that devasted the populace. Next came the plague that added more unfortunate souls on Death’s abacus. Finally came the great rain of fire, and death fell down on sinner and innocent alike, blood flooding the streets in place of water. The people, in their desperation, turned away from the Holy Mother Church and delved deep into pagan decadence or succumbed to the temptation of the Devil. You have been charged with the office of Inquisitor. It is up to you to investigate crimes against the one true faith and root out heresy--using any and all means necessary. As in all best computer RPGs--the most important choices are yours to make.
Inquisitor is a unique blend of action-oriented combat with a deep and involving tale of betrayal, torture, madness, and infernal damnation. Put your wits to the test as you collect evidence against possible heretics and put them to trial once they have been charged. The translation into English is very poor, which completely destroys the atmosphere the game is trying to create. This would be unfortunate in any game, but in an RPG like this that is depending quite strongly on atmosphere it's almost enough to kill the game by itself.
Also, the combat is tedious and clunky, and the first quest you get given is of the "kill 10 bats" variety, only worse, since the game doesn't tell you how many you need to kill. There appears to be no way to interact meaningfully with any NPC until you've completed this nonsensical and tedious quest.
I gave up after about half an hour.
The game has an intriguing begining, with the apocalyptic end of times and looks quite promising, But then comes the first enemy and the combat. My god the combat has got to the lamest, most unegaging desing ever. you spam click on your enemy fo about minute, then move to the next enemy. The fact that this game came ten years after Diablo 2 is mindbogling.
One can see the makers put an tremendous amount of hours in this game writing the dialogues and its overall design is very great, but:
This game is way, WAY too hard and even the first enemies you encounter will kill you fast.
No fun, no fun at all.
This game has a lot of potential: unique biblical end-of-Medieval-world setting, good story, some good dialogue, swift level advancement, lots of skills, and lots of spells. But I had to stop playing due to an annoying bug that wouldn't let me re-don my armor of choice. You can't beat the game without good armor because once you die the game is over and you have to reload. Other bugs include the right panel shaded in red all of a sudden (don't save when this happens. it is important to save frequently in this game. immediately close game and restart) and several crashes to desktop. If it weren't for these, easily five stars for uniqueness alone
Plot is good. Graphic is what you expect. But crashes to the desktop sometimes and missions get bugs that make immersion stop, so you go to find walkthroughs. I couldn't finish Lotti's one because when the infernal bats appeared to kil, she disappeared completely (bug) and I couldn't finish the mission. Frustrating, buggy, badly finished. Unbelievable.
