Excellent little post-apoc city sim
I wasn't even planning on doing anything but just taking 'er for a test run to check it out already I am hooked when I was meaning to just see how it runs then get back to another game but I just can't put this one down. Now that's a pretty tall order too, considering I have/could play/have finished the entire Tropico series, Cities Skylines, Endzone World Apart, Surviving Mars, Anno, Imagine Earth, Soviet Republik, Dungeons II & 3, Patrician, Frostpunk, Cliff Empire, Banished, Startopia, Surviving the Aftermath etc. and have been eyeing Ixion etc. before this even popped on my radar. I am SO so glad I got this one. Tbf, Surviving the Aftermath which I got on Epic giveaway & Endzone which I'd bought both look decent, but idk why this game just hooked me instantly. It is very easy to get into, tight gameplay, excellent soundtrack/audio design, I'm not super far into it yet but already looted plenty of places in chapter 1 & am starting farms & expanding my tech base after running out of all my berries. So not past chapter 1, for what it's worth, which I basically never do this, waiting til I finished it to leave a review instead, but man... Considering how few reviews there are I just need to add mine today, YES, this game is worth it. Phoenix Point, Miasma Chronicles, Dead Island 2, Homeseek I guess I'm on an endtimes kick right now. If you like city builders and have a free afternoon but don't wish to get into something super involved like Frostpunk but still want something way deeper & more engrossing than the simpler city sims, get this. For the price, it's worth it, for the sale I got it at, it's a no brainer. Performance on maxxed out settings 1440p can give even a GTX 1070ti or RX 5700 a run for its money (I already ran out of VRAM even on this game sheesh) so be forewarned it's one of those titles that can in theory run on your toaster at lowest settings with a dusty old GTX 750ti or your ol' GTX 960m laptop perhaps, but don't expect it to work or look great. My only complaint after like ten hours so far is that it crashed repeatedly, though tbf I may've had an unstable overclock or undervolt on something like my 5700 or Ryzen. Dang, the atmosphere is so gripping. Well done. Fyi, you're not playing the "usual" city builder, here whereas my natural impulse always is wilkommen b/c you can never find enough help around the base, it isn't actually like Aven Colony or Cliff Empire or Tropico where you want as many new helpers as possible; resources *are* super scarce here, you're going to need to learn to balance which things are priority fast (while hoping you don't get hit with a heatwave or something) & plan ahead to not tap your wells and berry bushes dry, so this is one of the few games I played where even in the earlier game turning refugees away may be your better option. Most games say "manage scarce resources & balance priorities and manpower" Homeseek really means it, you could very easily topple everything by just inviting a random 9 person group in who'll be eating all your limited food without doing anything meanginful beyond rifling through trash piles to get more Material that you don't need. This is a very easy recommend. I like most city builders/city managment sims, but there's something special about this one.
