Maybe the best 'Gauntlet-style' PC game.

I already own both the original CD game (which does not run on Windows 10) as well as a version put together by the popular "All video" ebay seller (his real name is Chris) which installs and runs in Windows 10 x64. For starters, contrary to what the first reviewer said, this is not an RPG by any stretch of the imagination. It is a Gauntlet-like arcade/action game where you start with one guy and then recruit up to three others. Unlike Gauntlet the game does not constrain itself to a single endless dungeon. Most of your adventure takes place above ground though there are some challenging 'dungeons' as you progress. I don't play many real-time action games anymore because I am largely unable to given my age and health issues but Hexplore I can still play. Combat is not so overwhelming (as it is in the "Gauntlet: Slayer" edition) that I am forced to give up and for this type of game everything is done really well. The characters, dialog, graphics and gameplay are all well done. It has been quite a while since I ventured far into the game so I cannot comment much about actual levels, enemies, tactics and details right now but the game is excellent!

Once Upon a time in the Medieval

Okay I had to admit, Hexplore has maybe the cheesiest opening ever... period! When I first saw it I burst into laugh wtf???? This game looks like very terribble back in day one. But these kind of games (you know Septerra Core etc.) you really don't care about visuals, because Hexplore has many opportunities below the surface. Gameplay - If you like RPG but not a hardcore fan of tha genre search no more. hexplore is your game. There are 13 characters, and four cast, archers, mage, warrior, and YOU your robotic face adventurer. There are womans, some with better skill, some gerater health, and unique dialogues, and voice over. Back in the day voice over was something which appeal to you, beacuse most of the games, especially RPG-s was only text based. You know when you find tons of books, with background of your kingdom, and you eagerly read the first two or three... but there are at least 506. So the gameplay is simple, hack & slash, or should I say point and slash, but you need to work together the four character, if you like Trine you know what I talkin about. The characters are fixed you can't adjuste them, but there is a replay value if you want to try every one. Heck I played at least five times this game when I was a kid. The story is the key here, cause the world is a crossover our real world and history (The First Crusade) and magic and fantasy. So we start somewhere in the Carpathian mountains all the way to the Holy land to find GOD himself. Hexplore has one mindfuck ending for sure. You will be thinking on it at least days. There are tons of traps, treasures, and cool weapons each of your characters. And secrets, I think I never find all of the secrects (so maybe I give another go). And this game looooong. I think 20-25 levels, and they are very looong. I remember when I finished level 4 I thought I played through the whole game. So Hexplore welcome back soldier, you maybe not the best, but enjoyable as hell.

AT LAST!

There are three games I've been waiting for years to be re-released by GOG: "Get medieval", "Zax the alien hunter", and "Hexplore"! Hexplore will enchant older gamers who played it 20 years ago, but I'm not so sure about younger gamers. Anyway, this is an exciting release of a very charming and additive action light-RPG with a lot of personality and easy to control. Set your expectation low, give it a try, and who knows maybe you'll have an entertaining good surprise.

Great dungeon crawling fun!

Had no idea what to expect from this one, particularly as I'd never heard much about it, but I've put a couple of hours into it, and it's really surprisingly fun! A fairly light dungeon crawler, but engaging and well paced. Great stuff!!

After all this years... here is it!

This is the game of my childhood, my first ever original game! It was given to me as a gift by my cousin, like 18 years ago, and I still have the original CD (in fact, right now, at less of 1 meter of distance). Sadly, installing directly from the CD, the game won't work unless you apply a fix... well, that until now. After all these years, GOG brought this jewel to us, and I can't be more happy about it! Pro's: - Kind of Diablo style gameplay, with maps that can have various secrets. You have to OBSERVE very well! - At difference of other games from the same era, rushing with the team of characters is not worth. In this game, you must think before acting. - Super simple but effective gameplay... CLICK UNTIL THEY DIE! - The camera control is very good. You can rotate it, something that some games of the same time couldn't do. - Memorable soundtrack (and now as a grown-up, I can say I never noticed how AWESOME it is), there's also funny voice acting that adds to the experience. Cons: - For some reason, my game softlocks on the intro, skipping it at the first seconds would solve it. However, in the instalation from my original CD with a patch, that doesn't occur. Weird. Didn't tested it on W10, this happens to me in W7 Ultimate. - I don't know if it is just the time that passed from the last time I played it, but the cinematics felt a bit "laggy"... well, they always were laggy, but not as much as now, although I might be wrong. The gameplay, however, is flawless. Note: Someone in the forums said the Multiplayer mode works with the files from the OG game but crashes. Because I have it here, might give a try and experiment... Overall, and for the REALLY cheap price (even more on offer), I consider you must grab it. Is a very well crafted and straight-forward adventure game that will give you a very entertaining time.
