More enjoyable than HoMM3
HoMM5 is superior to MoMM3. It has more interesting and tactical mechanisms. Once you master HoMM5, you might not go back to HoMM3.

Fair game, but...
If you are a big fan of HOMM34, as I am, you'll get disappointed. That said, I'll start my review talking about the heroes gameplay: 1.Heroes: in this installment you'll not be able to gather an army with more than one hero, you also will not be able to have an army with only a hero without units or an army with only units. Your army must have one hero and at least one unit. And there are some limitations for controling your hero during the battle, you cannot strike the enemy's hero, for example. Those points were a huge improvement in the previous installment. 2.Buildings and Units: it's very cheap to build your castle and recruit units, you don't have to gather a lot of resources and you don't have to choose between building a structure, that allows you to recruit a particular unit, or another. 3.Campaigns: you have to play the campaigns in a particular order, you cannot choose which campaign to play. 4.Other observations: there are no caravans and artifacts do not have a significant contribution to your hero skills. Also, the game music is terrible. Despite that it's a fun game to play. But, I still prefer HOMM34.

an excelent game
A wonderful game, it have a lot of heroes 3 in it, yet is less shady and fresher. Its an epic game with a very intriguing and fun storyline (some campaigns are better than other in this trough), and a prequel to dark messiah in this respect. Some memorable characters, nice music (although not as good as heroes 4), the mechanics are very well done, it got the spirit of its predecessors yet its more dynamic, it got a lot of different units and factions thanks to its expansion packs, the maps (specially the snow and underground maps) got a lot of ambient, the graphics are old yet still beautiful (especially true for the towns and castles) I totally recommend it, I been playing this game since the day it came out till now and its always an entreating experience

As good as HOMM3
I was not expecting this game to match the masterful HOMM 3 and not only did it match it but added some extra features as well. The only thing that I find a bit annoying is the choice to go with '3D' graphics rather than flat pre-rendered art etc like in HOMM3 and it shows because over the years it does not age well. -1 for the graphics but overall a great game and worthy of being one of the best HOMM games and equal if not better than HOMM3.
