Every campaign a new mechanic
The game is split into short campaigns or scenarios and they all seem to have some unique mechanic to them(not sure if all of them do, haven't finished the game yet). If you want to be challenged, hard is probably the best difficulty option for you, on medium you're allowed to mess up a bit too much without really getting punished for it.

weird west .... but hard
the mechanics are simple but complex. u can easily win or lose. and the story is great and stupid. i have mix feelings. buy it on super sale.

Cool concept but Game breaking bugs ruin
It was great for about 30 minutes but after getting a bug where the characters ai breaks trying to finish their turn in the 1 mission, rquiring a full restar of the mission and then getting the same bug 10 times in the second mission which is longer it doesn't make sense to keep going. Such a shame.

Simple but not easy...
HW is a quite enjoyable turn based western shooter with supernatural elements. It is simpler than other games from this genre, but not too easy. You have 3 difficulty settings to adjust it to your level of skill. The main game offers several campaigns. Each campaign consists of a strategy map where you plan your next move and decide which location to go to next. Some locations just advance the story or offer stores to buy supplies and equiment, others lead to tactical encounters. The campaign-stories are not totally awesome but quite enjoyable. The setting is fresh and offers a nice break from the typical fantasy or sci-fi setting. With the main game and the DLC it will take around 20 hours to finish the game. I am not so found of the DLC though, it heavily recycles assets and has a mediocre story with annoying missions. I think it is only for hardcore fans. If you like games like Xcom, HOMM, Mordheim etc. you may give this indie game a try.

Excellent Wild West RTS
For anyone looking to fill the gap until RDR or looking for more XCOM like fun you should consider Hard West. The graphics are great and make you feel like you are in the wild west. Each scenario is bite sized to allow for pick up and play fun. The "filler" in between combat scenarios like the prospecting and mini quests are fun and an engaging way to build story around the main missions. The combat is turned based and built around hit percentages and luck. To augment battles their is a card based augmentation system which allows for special perks and abilities. The story itself revolves around our main character and his interaction as a child with a demonic presence that changes his life as he grows with his wife Florence. The story has a Jonah Hex vibe with some devil at the crossroads flare from Ghost Rider. Excellent game for an excellent price. The only reason I pulled one star is the menu system can be a little lagy and some things are not explained very well even in the breif tutorial.
