Months after the final release, Gwent: The Witcher Card Game is still going strong. The minigame-turned-esport continually goes through iterations and patches, shedding skins and morphing into a real beast of a card game. It has a wistful past, a solid present, and a bright future.

Good old Gwent
There are far too many rage-induced reviews here, mostly dated, from people disappointed by the somewhat harsh switch from beta to 1.0 "Homecoming" hurting this game's reputation in a blatantly unfair way. I played beta to death for about four months, so I know well (to a degree at the very least: I'm not a professional or excessively dedicated player) what I'm writing about. Suddenly, Gwent changed from kind of ugly to beautiful to look at, but something was lost in exchange: a lot of players who had mastered the beta mechanics felt umcomfortable, and some even betrayed, despite the fact that everybody was advised properly in the launch screen the game had at that time that the final release could be as different from previous versions as needed. I was upset too, but most of all because of the performance issues the switch brought to my brand-new but anyway underpowered (AMD A6 9225, Radeon R4, 8 GB of RAM) laptop. The graphical embellishment was a much-needed thing to do in my humble opinion, but I played Gwent 1.0 "Homecoming" for about two or three more weeks with less than 20 FPS on minimum graphical settings and at 1280x720 DPI, and then I gave up and tried some other CCG. I even cancelled the GOG.com account I had opened just to try Gwent. Now I regret this decision I made sooo much... Yesterday, I wanted to know if the game had been fixed enough both in terms of gameplay ("Homecoming" version seemed to me rather dull too in this respect) and performance, and I can tell the developers have delivered gracious, even majestically. It's not only that the game runs now like a charm on my laptop: it's that the game is as rewarding as ever, and a lot of fun once again. Don't be fooled by outdated or inmature opinions. Although I'm on my forties and I'm not writing reviews anywhere anymore, I felt the responsibility to write this last one to help make this wonderful game justice. Let's make Gwent great again together. The developers have done their part already.

I loved it when it was in beta
but now i miss the old optics. it was so wonderful comic like and it had charme. but now it looks like cheap 3d animation. Plus its hardcore p2w now. Sorry, i loved the idea, but now im out.
