so over-all game-experience: buying, trying all kind of settings, finally deleting this piece software

DO NOT BUY! The game code is broken and will not even start. I guess some things are best just left in the past. There is a Remake coming anyway so go play that!

I'm reviewing this as someone totally new to Gothic, but who enjoys older RPGs and games from the era like Thief or Morrowind. The Good: * Some cool magic spells * Decent world-building * The visuals are well done for the time period * Voice acting (mostly) The bad: * No sense of discovery/exploration. No quests to find, no cool locations to discover, no unique hand-placed gear to loot. * Movement, combat and taking action in general is extremely clunky * Very tedious in some areas, like looting and traveling * Story is incredibly generic and boring, except maybe first 1/3rd * No interesting progression/ cool skills * Still a bit janky/broken even with the community patches currently available (Union + G1CP) This review was extremely cut-down in terms of explanations due to the character limit for reviews on this site. This is just a summary of the big points.

The absolute worst combat system I have ever had the displeasure to use. I have had this title now, for years. It taunts me - sitting there on the shelf. "Hey" it says "come play me" I simply whistle, go about my business, and pretend I never heard it. I do not care how good others have said the story is. How can one enjoy a title when they are so severely handicapped right out of the box? Now understand - I'm no stranger to difficult games. This title - takes pain in the azz - to a level that isn't healthy. To say the controls are "clunky" is being polite. REALLY polite. My advice? there are a A LOT of other older titles from this time and era, that, simply stated, put this to shame. I do, however, wish SOMEONE would do a solid remake. This all being said - spend your hard earned - elsewhere - even at 10 bucks It simply - isn't worth it. ~ SC ~

Why is the control scheme so ♥♥♥♥ing awful? Was the year 2001 just on drugs when some games were in development? The game works but it's unplayable due to VERY poor controls and lack of mouse support. And by lack of mouse support I mean you don't use the mouse buttons like in Gothic 3 or Risen to initiate an action. All you use is the keyboard which gets annoying the second you enter the game.
