I played this game a few years ago but I still feel like it was a great game. This game has an original conept which is used very well whether freeing ghosts or scaring humans away the ghost related fun does not stop. I'm glad gog picked up this game because not alot of people know about this game hell i only heard about it because I knew someone who had a copy. Anyway great game worth a buy.
Read the other positive reviews, one of my favorite "old" PC games to play, as it's almost infinitely replayable, relaxing, fun, kooky, campy, everything a good video game should be. It's kid-friendly as well. Picking it up for $5 or $1.50 on sale is a bargain either way.
It could be a great game but it's only end up as semi sandbox with mission goals.
If mortals got better routines and your ghost could use more of commands to create better atmosphere.
It's one-time fun to just scare everyone off but to have any replayability you need a deeper development that this game couldn't afford.
well i dont get to play every game when they come out because no one has that kind of time for one, and another is it costs to much to buy first run games. now it turns out i just had to wait long enough.
some of these classics i played already. freespace, descent 1&2, 3, more. but many i have not.
ghost master sounded like fun when it came out but i did'nt get the chance to play it.
thanks to GOG i got to play this cool game for a really cool price. if your reading reviews from customers to decide if its worth the money and the download. my recommendation, if you like the sims but always wanted to scare them to death. you will love this game. watch mortals run in fear. bust the ghostbreakers, scare some witches, even the Mob is scared of you.
it may be old but its still fun. thanks GOG for the blast from the past. MORE GAMES!!!
At first glance GM might look like simple tactical strategy where player has to scare the s*** out of everyone on the level by using squad of ghosts but there is more to it. Later levels often add more diverse objectives which might require luring mortals to do something or using specific powers of specific ghosts to achieve some goal. It can be both fun and annoying. There is a fair bit of randomness in this game and possibilities of controlling mortals are very limited which means that, depending on luck, some missions might be completed very quickly, even by coincidence, or be a real pain and take ages or many tries to finish. While most scenarios are rather easy and straightforward enough to win, few of them (e.g. final two) can be very tricky.
For completionists there are also bonus ghosts to unlock hidden on most levels which require using ghost's powers (sometimes of more than one ghost) to be released. Hints on how to do that are usually vague or obscure and in some cases only very specific powers work while similar one or, one would think, logically correct won't which makes it serious but not necessarily fun challenge.
As for ghosts there is quite a lot of them of different types and new powers can be unlocked between scenarios. Squad of maximum 6 can be used on mission which means sometimes restarts might be necessary in case of lack of ability needed to do something crucial. Fortunately game isn't overly linear and gives some freedom in sense that there often are multiple solutions to do the task, sometimes including very creative and unorthodox ones.
It's certainly unique title, hard to classify as any genre and hard to compare with something similar. At least I don't know of such game. This uniqueness is probably the reason why it did poorly but at the same time is cult classic for many people. For expecting hardcore strategy it'll be too simplistic and lacking tactical depth. The puzzle aspect could be better thought. But overall this mix kinda works.
